Timewarp's Rant 6: Daytime talk shows
Have you ever been bullied, father an abusive drunk, scared by a childhood deliema, etc? When you have these problems, what or whom do you turn to for help? Religion, pyschologists, parents, friends, etc? They are completely reliable and helpful. You'd think with all the most benefical options at your disposal you wouldn't choose any less than perfect....would you? Of course not, why? Because some time ago a thoughtless group of people desided to exploit peoples emotion Nation-wide. The talk show, nothing more than a souless atempt to return order to a broken human if only to attain ratings.
So you're saying, "But there are some very good qaulity talk shows out there that really help people. How could that be bad"? Well i'll tell you, YOU are only watching it to see how messed up someone else can be compared to you. YOu can denie it, even contest it. But ask yourself, have you ever looked for a talk show to see the process of recovery or was it the title "My brother is my baby's father"? I can say that absolutly say if you say the first option you're lying.
What astonishes me more than the people who watch it is the people who come on to the show. Do any of them realize to the full extent they're signing their death warrents and labeling themselfs for life? I've seen it all, from "I'm not your baby's daddy" to "I weigh over **** pounds". Do I feel sorry? No I don't. Instead of keeping it a private matter, they decided to humillate themselfs and now I'm going to ridcule you're stupid ass.
So here some examples of what makes talk shows so savagely pitaful.
1: Personal matters. "Oh he's not the father, I didn't sleep with him". Yeah how many times have we heard that and then started betting who was actually right? It's always almost the same situation, the dude who denies he's the father is always the father. Women goes backstage in tears. Everyone boos the father. Next segament, rinse, repeat. And sure then there's "i'm sleeping with someone else". Is it just me or did every white hick audition for the roll because that is the majority of guest on the show. It's never a Mexican, Chinesse, Scotish, Indian, Native American, etc. (That is statisticly different in every country, for you statistic buffs). It's either white or black.
2: People. First of did most of these people fall of the ugly bus and skided across the gravel? These people, especailly on the lower bound talk shows, are FUGLY as sin. Which fuels my steryotype that ugly people are always the one that has trouble. But then I guess in a society that demands perfection, why wouldn't they? Then they always come in with the most damn obvious personal issues, issues that just beg the audiance to hamiluate them. These people didn't flunk highscholl, they flunked special ed. "Oh I didn't sleep with her cause I was in the other room....she was in". Sometimes I'm amazed they were able to even work the phone to get on the show.
3: Host. Hollow shells of husk of humans. Oh they are always so concern with their guest. Ophra,,,oh man, one fat lying sack of crap. "Oh I know what you've been through. I've been there with you". WTF!? You have no realation with a Mexican with a drug habit, or an morbidly obessed person, or someone with dislexia, or whatever. She, along with other host, have never been in their shoes for even more than 3 mins. All they can draw from are from books, stories, and even rare occasions of making an attempt to really experiance what another's life is like. Some host even egg on their guest. Again to boost ratings. After all, no one likes confort and acceptance, they love conflict and distruction. Which is the whole friggin point.
In closing if you ever felt sorry for anyone who made some stupid mistakes through there own actions and not things out of their control, like genetics or accidents, while watching a tv talkshow, you are an huge idiot. And if you say you're watching one because you wanted to see how it ends, you are idiot. It's true the tv is nothing but a cultural wasteland. And this just further proves that people are willing to do anything for fame, no matter how much it will hurt them in the end.
