Towards the end of the millennia, somewhere in the 80s the creation of the internet. In no less than 10 or something years the internet has spread worldwide, connecting people globally like never before. With a new way to express and connect, man looked for new ways to find enjoyment in this technology. With the rise of another technology, video gaming, it was only a matter of time before the two would blend into each other. Now it's 2006 and the culture of gaming and internet connectivity grows at an exponetial rate.
However it has become apparent that both have become plagued by a disease that is way too common. The devotion of this subject will only be on gaming and the disease, human stupidity.
Ever since my first experiance with onlone gaming in simple games like Diablo and Starcraft, I've come to realize the horrors that plauge every game that involves more than 2 people. People are stupid. Let's me discuss this in terms from my point of veiw.
There are so many examples but lets focus on one. 1st person shooters: Every single one from, Doom to BF2 has some form of game running 24 hours a day. You'd think if people were playing this long eventually they would figure it all out. But no, even with all that play time there are still those who must have flunked out of elementary school. Weither it's not knowing what to do to just plain out do completely nothing i'm astonished anyone would allow these people to play. So heres a game example.
BF2: This is a 64 multiplayer war against some team or another. Every person has his or her own stats that keep track of their progress. Gameplay is very simple, capture the flag and drain your enemy's score points to win the round. You get about 7 different roles, each is self-explanitory, Team work is essential. squads and commander. best team wins. Sounds simple right? You'd think so but no. Sometimes depending on what team your on determines who you work with, clans and vetrians aside, and you know what team your own immediate when you observe the actions of others. It's only when you watch them do you realize, more likey or not have ended up on the team of dumbasses.
The first thing you realize is how surprising fast all control points are lost very early in the game, I mean in the 1st five minutes. I might not be a general but the first basic instinct in battle is to defend your objectives. And yet i'm very suprise how one person can overrun a lightly gaurded flag. Either they weren't paying attention or didn't even care that everyone of them were getting offed. Go figure. What's worse is that no one can even regain control once it's gone. But since everyone thinks they're Rambo there is a really lack of teamwork.
I mean when you choose a role, you're supposed to play that role. But no matter what role everyone else plays they always fail to execute that role. Medics refusing to heal, support not giving out ammo, engineers not repairing or planting land mines, piolits who crash within 5 feet from takeoff. Why choose them if you won't or can't use them. The worst case is when everyone chooses one role, meaning that without a signifficant amount of other roles your team is basically dead. You can only hope if these people ever join a real army they'll be rejected or killed for being self-absorbed.
So maybe your team is insufficant, surely a well-abled commander can pull them from the brink of defeat, well not if they're from the same group of idiots. Weither it's a misplaced artillary barage, ignoring incoming troops, or not repairing destroyed equipment, an idiot can also sink a team down weither they are doing well or not. And try as you might, he won't leave his position until you lose or he quits out of shame. Hell I would prefer to let a commander sink to the end, at least it will teach them they are bad at stratagey.
Finally chat, of course we all know this. But, in games, chat gets really derogatory and down right rascist. How many times have I joined a sever and the first thing I see is, "F**k of N*****" or "Suck my D***"? Smack talk is mind game but it's hard to play one if your opponet is more childish than....a child. Actually most smack talk is actually done by rich kids. Seriously it's like they were raised by KKK and then inherited a white trashe's fortune. I always feel there should be a real age restriction device for games to keep children from ruining it for the rest of us or an intellagence test for that matter.
But why bother, we gamers have been complaining about the same thing since the begining of gaming. I guess when the weak die out maybe mankind will improve in an intellectual sense, but I seriously doubt that.
You got a commett, so did I but it's right here. I don't really give a f***, that's why it's called a rant. I'm outta here.
