Pertaining to members. I'm talking about data collected by the site on visitors, cataloged, and potentially sold to advertisers and such.

I ask because many, many sites on the internet, and advertisers are heavily into data-mining and tracking of users across domains. I don't think you can duck under them just by controlling the cookies on your browser - there are supposedly other ways of tracking people by logging characteristics of their browser and such on a server and then collating information later.

Some sites specifically go out of their way to avoid collecting any such data or restrict the distribution of that data to outside parties.

The way a site deals with its visitors' data is normally spelled out in a privacy policy.
