TMF Puter boffins.............

......I need a little help.......my sister wants to use my puter to study for a course of some kind and I need to conceal my TMF stuff out of harms way. I know its not exactly hard porn but as she is likely to bring her kids she may not welcome any suprises! I dont want some awkward coding system or anything like that, I know less about puters than Neutron does about music!! so any help spelt out as if explaining it to George Bush will be greatfully received.

Red....What operating system do you have? If it's Windows XP, you could set up a second user account and block access to your own stuff. You'll also want to clear you browser history before she gets there.

....I am ok with clearing the browser, what I have is a file with all my tickling related stuff in it, I have no documents or pictures anywhere on the puter other than that file, and it is on my C drive as "art" but i could just do with burying it a bit deeper somehow.

You could also erase your computers history and delete your cookies...this may help if you can't set up a second user acount

Stick the file in some obscure location. Create a system of technical-sounding folders in your C drive. What I did when I was living with my parents and using their computer was within my folder, I created a folder called "Private". Inside was a group of ten folders. Inside each of them was 10 more folders, and so on. Only the correct sequence would lead to the questionable material. (Fortunately, my parents were computer-illiterate, so it worked just fine.) Just remember that no matter where you put the file, unless you are able to restrict access to it, it will show up when a search is performed on your hard drive if it matches the search criteria. But like Ann said, if you are using Windows XP, the second user account would be your best bet.

You can set up a sequence of folders to burry it.....or password protect a directory and stick it there. Lotsa ways to hide it.

I run Windows98 and if you go to My computer-Control Panel-Users you can set up another user

I would dump the file to a CD, immediately test the CD by restoring it to the D drive, if all is well delete both copies, hide the CD in the truck and wait out the study session.

Here's the easiest way to hid files, I do it all the time.

First right click on the folder you want to hide, select Properties.

At the bottom of the check Hidden then OK.

Now, open the Tools menu of any folder and seclect 'folder options'.

Click the View tab.

Now click "Do not show hidden files or folders". But this may already be done.

Now, when you want to get into the folder, simply click the "Show hidden files and folders"

As long as your sister isn't very computer savy, she'll never find it. And even she is, she'll never even know it's there unless she goes looking for something.
