i love getting to know about folks on tmi tuesday!
1.) What's one trend from your child-hood that you wish would come back?
kids being able to safely and fearlessly ride their bikes and play outdoors until the streetlights came on and it was time to go home for dinner with the family
2.) What is the newest techy gadget you've been drooling over?
i'm a simple girl, but at some point i could use a new laptop. i've taken to hibernating my pc rather than shutting it down because it takes so long to boot despite having cleared out my startup files.
3.) You're holding a fund-raiser to make money for a cause you just created. What is the cause?
i'd love to start an umbrella non-profit to fill the many gaps i've found in providing services to professional folks who become disabled. the fund-raiser for this non-profit would fund a variety of grant programs or grant writers to deal with these issues as well as more basic issues (e.g. self-defense for the disabled and elderly) and to fund things like small housing units where professional people who might not be able to work in the outside world but could if they had an office environment where they lived with a shared secretary, office equipment, conference room, etc on the first floor and the residents/workers living above.
4.) What's your favorite breakfast food?
i LOVE breakfast food for any meal of the day, especially omelets with veggies and cheese and pancakes.
5.) If you could play any instrument well, what instrument would it be?
it would be a toss-up between an acoustic guitar and a djembe (african drum)
6.) You can legally own an exotic animal. What animal will you choose to have?
none. i don't think any more animals need to be domesticated.
7.) What was the best part of your Easter?
i don't celebrate easter, but i celebrate the spring equinox which means sun has "resurrected" --i.e. the days are getting longer--and the earth is fertile again (at least in the northern hemisphere) and teeming with life
8.) Did you have any special traditions as a kid during Easter time?
it was also one of the few days during the year where we had a holiday meal with all the things that we didn't eat the other 361 days. and waking to an easter basket full of chocolates. we used to put our big bunnies in the deep freezer to make them last longer.
9.) What does your dream home look like? [[post a pic that's as close to relevant!]]
this is a buddhist temple but the concept could easily be applied to any building:
In perhaps the ultimate display of painstaking patience, Buddhist monks in Thailand built up an entire temple out of used beer bottles. Holy men in Sisaket province collected a million green Heineken and brown Chang beer bottles to build the Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew temple. Even the washrooms and the crematorium are built of bottles. It was constructed as a “visual reminder to the scope of pollution and the potential we can make with limber minds.” Which is exactly what I’m sure every frat boy across America was thinking when he built a beer tower in his bar room.
with this greenhouse:
Community artist Ilona Bryan says she has "done a lot of strange things with recycling plastic drinks bottles" over the years, although she apparently never thought of building walls. She snapped this photo of a natural sewage treatment area for Scotland's Earthship Fife. The facility also has a greenhouse made in the same way, as well as various renewable energy and alternative building demonstration projects.
Jessica Reeder did a month-long internship at Earthship Biotecture, and had a fantastic time. She learned about catching rainwater, powering electronics with solar panels (even when it's cloudy!), and indoor greenhouses. Reeder loves the stained glass look of bottles in walls, and said they're easy to make: stack the bottles, cut with a tile saw, then tape the two fat ends together. Then you just cement them in, she says.
10.) You get to choose a signature picture for someone on the forum. Post the picture and who it's to here.
to Cars, the person on tmf who seemingly talks about drinking and perhaps drinks more than any other, is a guru and deserves a temple of his own made of beer bottles, i give you an interior picture of my ideal house which could be your dorm room:
