this is a very strange place to ask for this kind of help but i got nowhere else to turn. i need some serious help. im trying to get my cutlery store off the ground. let me be upfront and say i know nothing about the details of business. my only advantage here is i have a solid knowledge of the products im going to carry and i have taste. iv got the further advantage of living next to a big military base and no competion within 45 miles. i know who and where my target clientel is. the help i need is for somebody with expierience to explain to me in plain english about the different license's and permits im going to need. if im going to have the best prices its imperative that i buy directly from the manufacturer and skip the middle man distributors. but what kind of license do i need for that? sales tax permit? what the hell is that for....dont i just charge the 8 cents on the dollar sales tax and turn it in at the end of the year? what is a section 18 form and where do i get one? its the details like that that are keeping me on the ground. THIS IS NO JOKE. IF SOMEONE HERE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEIR DOING WILL MENTOR ME THROUGH ALL THE GRITTY DETAILS AND HELP ME GET OFF THE GROUND...ON THE DAY I OPEN FOR BUSINESS ILL SEND THAT PERSON A MICROTECH HALO 3 FREE AND CLEAR AND THAT PERSON WILL NEVER PAY A CENT OVER MY COST ON ANYTHING HE OR SHE EVER WANTS FROM MY INVENTORY FOR THE REST OF HIS OR HER LIFE. im dead serious. i need somebody on my side bad and im out of places to turn. so if anybody here knows anything that can help me ill make it worth your while please post your email address and ill contact you with with the details i have so far.

Solid Advice

Mate, I'm going to give you the worlds best advice, and you don't have to send me anything..lol. GET AN ACCOUNTANT!! NOW!! Get a midpriced one who handles other small businesses, with references. State laws vary GREATLY, and a good accountant will actually save you money, as well as aggravation and a possible jail term. I run a variety of businesses in Ny, and the potential land mines are many...it's their job to know what you need to do, need to avoid, and can legally "bend" without incurring the dreaded "audit of death". Start looking now, and shop for one as though your entire business future depends on it...you won't be sorry. After you settle on him/her, LISTEN to what they say...you can get back on here in a year or so and all will be well! Q

There's a group called the Small Business Administration that I believe is in every state. They conduct classes to let you know how to go about getting your business licenses and answer all those pertinent questions pertaining to doing business in your state, incorporating (if you want to do that), and they will really walk you through the entire process. I'd recommend you check them out.

If you can't find them in your area let me know. I have some local contacts here who can probably find out who you should contact there.

Best of luck in your new venture!
