I'm pretty busy with writing and stuff at the moment, but this is one of the topics that popped in my head. I want to discuss favorite fictional romances, and see how the ones we like echo what we really look for in real life. I have to be brief cuz I got stuff to do, but I thought I'd rattle off my favorites:

1. Rick Blaine & Ilsa Lund Laszlo (Casablanca)
Forget Romeo & Juliet, this is the ultimate star-crossed romance.

2. Holden McNeil & Alyssa Jones (Chasing Amy)
I guess I like those tragic not-to-be romances huh? Besides, one's a lesbian, that's a plus... and it's the only movie I can stand Ben Affleck in.

3. Haruka Ten'oh & Michiru Kaioh (Sailor Moon)
Hooray for lesbians! In any case, I like this one because it's so damn strong. They even sell out to the bad guys so they can be together. Then they get killed shortly after, but the death scene makes you cry!

Others I can think of:
Peter Parker & Felicia Hardy (Spider-Man comic)
Spike Spiegel & Julia (Cowboy Bebop)
Kenshin Himura & Tomoe Yukishiro (Ruroni Kenshin OAV)

Off the top of my head for movies Hsui Lien and Mu Bai in "Crouching Tiger.." and Jacob Schram and Anna Reilly in "Keeping the Faith"

Otherwise, Cliff and Claire Huxtable.

Aragorn and Arwyn - Lord of the Rings
(She gives up her immortality for him, fer Chrissakes! Even after he tries to leave her for her own good. Plus, elf chicks are just hot...)

Dharma and Greg - Dharma and Greg(TV)
(A perfect balance of Yin and Yang. Besides, Dharma would be the perfect girl for me, so I guess I'm a bit biased...)

Leia Organa and Han Solo - Star Wars
(Sadly, it wasn't until the Expanded Universe novels started that this unusual relationship was truly explored, escpecially in the New Jedi Order. However, the first kiss aboard the Falcon in The Empire Strikes Back is perhaps the only bit of romance Lucas tried that actually worked...)

Adam and Eve - The Book of Genesis
(Well, we all kinda owe them something for that little tryst, eh?)

Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade - Star Wars (Expanded Universe)
(She's programmed to kill him, he marries her. Kinda worked out nice. Oh, yes...there was a little sexual tension over the course of 15 DAMN BOOKS before that happened, though. Why does the dorky one always get the hot chick with the nice rack?)

Dave2112 and Jessica Alba - a dark place
(Now there's a fictional couple, eh?)

David Addison and Maddie Hayes (Moonlighting)
The tension they had before they actually got together was awesome.

Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara (Gone With The Wind)
One of the best romance stories, period.

Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler (A Scandal in Bohemia)
"To Sherlock Holmes she is always the woman." What could have been, but never was...

Best Romantic Pair

From my 2 Favorite John Wayne Movies:
Michele & Sam from North to Alaska,
(wonder if ole Sam Discovered what Made Michele LAUGH SO HARD back in the cabin w/ George?)>
& Sean Thornton And Mary Kate Dannagher from The Quiet Man
...Did Sean REALLY find out Redheads Are MORE TICKLISH?

I loved Richard Chamberlain and Rachel Ward in the Thornbirds, loved the forbidden romance!
