Hey Folks,

Was wondering if it is worth it for me to buy a PS3.

I have a fun home theater set up, and love my video games, but it seems awfully pricey.

Any advice you can give will be helpful.

Do you have an XBox 360? If so, skip the ps3 because you have a better system. If you don't have an XBox 360; skip the ps3 and get the better, and much cheaper, system. XBox might not be able to play blu rays, but that's ALL ps3 is good for. It's certainly not good for gaming.

I heard the PS3 was going to lower their prices about $100.00. So if you plan on getting one still I'd hold off.

The PS3 is a wonderful system, but so is Xbox 360.

If you do decide to purchase a PS3, I suggest you find the older 60GB ones because those are capable of playing PS2 and PS1 games... you'll know the difference in the trim of the console.

The older 60GB that plays the older games, has a "shiny chrome" trim to it.

The newer consoles that are out now do not have the chrome trim... and they do not play PS2 or PS1 games

To find one go to your nearest, game store that trades consoles or sell refurbished ones... plus buying an older or refurbished 60GB console, will be cheaper and a lot better than the current PS3 console editions...

It's game library is cool with a lot of PS3 exclusive...

If your find interest in an Xbox 360 console.

The latest 360 consoles have a new Jasper Chip set which will bring the chance of red ring between super slim to none. Doesn't play Blu-ray like PS3, but gaming-wise, it is more than satisfactory. It's game library is wonderful.

Visually, both consoles are equal in graphical quality.

A huge rumor is hanging around both systems, that they will get another price drop near the end of the summer; like around the end of August or the beginning to mid September...

If I were you, (and since I'm thinking about making a future purchase as well) I 'd wait until September... 😉

😉

Are you sure the newer ones don't play PS1 games? I know they dropped PS2 support, but when I checked a few months ago they still played PS1. Regardless, I'm not buying one. There isn't nearly the good games for it that PS2 has.

Whoops! Got too ahead of myself.... they do play PS1 games... 😀

I got an 80 gb ps3 and it plays ps1 and ps2 games I also run my internet browser of it cuz I have an older big screen tv's .ya know the ones that stick out from the wall like 2 ft. and have built in like 8 inch speakers. So its pretty sweet for internet porn. Big speakers and like a 42inch screen vs a tiny computer monitor with terrible speakers

thank you for all the advice folks.

Price drops are always a good thing.
Waiting looks like it's on the cards.

As for big screen and big speakers, I am thinking my projector (100" picture) and my infinity speakers can foot the bill nicely.

Sometimes when I watch movies I can scare the neighbors. 🙂

I wouldn't trade my year-and-a-half-old PS3 for a brand new xbox in the box.....
