LONDON (Reuters) - Welsh singer Tom Jones (news) is to be honored with a lifetime achievement award at next year's Brits, the UK music industry's annual Oscars (news - web sites).

The singer, who is to receive his award in London next February, boasts a career that spans four decades from "It's Not Unusual" to his latest collaboration with Wyclef Jean.
"This is great news. I am really chuffed. See you on the night," Jones said on being told of his "Outstanding Contribution to Music Award."
Previous recipients of the award have ranged from Sting to U2, Elton John (news) and the Bee Gees
