A walled town.

As you pass through Arthenas's external defensive layer, you get the impression of a small town that has rapidly grown into a walled stronghold.

Funerary monuments still litter the sides of the main road, and pavements are barely raised above ground level.

Citizens stroll along quickly; you can't be sure if they are really hostile, or just plain weary from the working day - but you get the feeling their life is fairly gloomy: wooden and stone munitions rise about everywhere, as if Arthenas were under continual siege.

Sun goes down, and when you can barely get a glimpse of light against the western sky, behind the tall spires of a tower, you start hearing a droning noise, followed by the ding of a bell.

"Time for the evening prayers" you overhear a local murmur.

A warm welcome.

Draco is politely invited over Magister Acathos's quarters.
Guards salute their Captain, while eyeing his guest suspiciously.

"Please, this way, Domine."

A scoundrel's fate.

Castorp is lead to the gaol. Vigiles place a stinking hood on his head, and push him into what sounds and feels like a damp, cold dungeon.

A timely rescue.

Tanandra urges Rilina to resume travelling as soon as possible - her plan is to reach Bisanthium by the next day.

On her part, the poor apothecary is barely capable of standing - riding through the night would really wear her out.

While Tanandra would shrug off fatigue easier than Rilina, they both could use some rest.

Hue, Tukano, xtxlx and Rilina can resume playing here.

Who Goes There, Draco?

Arthenas - Lower Town.

Draco declined to board a slave-driven cart; he simply followed Gorados's on foot, much to the overworked slaves' relief.

Arthenas - Older Town - Goradus's Villa.

Magister Acathos must be fairly influential in Arthenas, and judging by his mansion's decor, moderately well-off as well.

His two story villa rests in the higher, older, part of the walled town. It offers a decent vista of the plains, due east, and enjoys the fresh evening breeze, far from the mud ridden low town.

Statues and frescoes adorn the foyer, while Goradus's office sports weapons and trophies, hanging from the red-painted walls; the eeriest is a large, horned skullbone, resting upon a small dais.

Draco avoids most of Acathos's attempts at conversation; the Captain offers Draco a slave-maid for the night, but he turns the offer down.

Goradus claps his hands and the girls is gone, in a soft flutter of robes.
"Lovable little pet." chuckles Goradus, fondling his cup of spiced hot wine.

Finally, Draco is shown to his quarters for the night, a windowless room with a brazier and a simple yet soft cot.

The slender servant shows up again, to bring hot water and a basin; she leaves them by the frameless doorway - in true morean fashion, the door is nothing more than a thick curtain - and without a word she's gone.

Restless Night.

Draco catches sleep quickly: most warriors learn to sleep whenever they can, wherever they may.

Coals in the brazier are now cold; Draco's warrior senses twitch, and he's wide awake, reaching for his weapons.

Realizing he left them in the foyer, in respect of the sanctity of hospitality, Draco pauses for a brief second, trying to probe the mansion for hostiles, with his hearing alone.

He can hear muffled laughters, coming from what he assumes to be Goradus's chamber. Somebody is having fun, apparently.

Then, a rustling noise, and someone skulking behind the door-curtain, in the corridor beyond.

Draco's muscles flex, deciding what to do next.

Just tell me how Draco is re-acting. 😉
Don't begin combat, yet.

ooc... Just restating what I posted in the Thargayan Peninsula - day 3 thread - Tanandra has taken Rilina to an inn to rest for the night and recover from her ordeal. Then on day 4 - she plans to take the both of them back to Bisanthium in the carriage that brought her here. (and the tickling finally starts, yay!)

Action Appended.

Tanandra knows Arthenati innkeepers fairly well; she leads Rilina to a convenient caupona, owned by a man of trust.

Arthenas - A Respectable Establishment.

The journey through the winding street and alleys was quick and uneventful; other than poking Rilina's sides once or twice "accidentally" as part of making sure the apothecary is still awake, nobody disturbed the two women.

Tandy chuckled to herself as the poor girl jumped each time: "Now Rilina, there's no need to be jumpy. You're quite safe now.", she said.

The Spotted Feather was one of the better inns - and Tandy knew the owner. He was not particularly surprised seeing her escort in a rather ragged looking girl. It wasn't the first time.

"Miss Tanandra and... guest? We have your two rooms upstairs as you requested, with hot bath and meal of course... and your facilities in the base..."
Tandy interrupted. There was no reason to talk about the times she teased pretty young things to tears in the basement... at least not right now. "No, just the room as you said. Are her clothes ready also?"
"Yes, as you said. The usual for young ladies of good character."
"Good, I'll come pick those up in the morning then."

Tandy takes the room keys and escorts Rilina upstairs. The rooms are clean and quite comfortable. Steam from a hot bath can be seen wafting in from the bathroom. Bread and cheese, a hearty soup, vegetables and meat are piled on a table waiting to be eaten.

"Now Rilina, just try to recover yourself from that awful, awful experience you had. Rest up and tomorrow I'll have some new clothes brought up, and then my carriage will take us back to the city. On the way, I'll need to interview you about what happened and then, well that depends on what comes up I suppose. And of course I'll be in the room across the hall should you need something."

She did hope the girl didn't start bawling out of gratitude. She might actually start to feel guilty. There was, as they say, a first time for everything.

Part Omitted:

The journey to Asperum is quick and uneventful, other than poking Rilina's sides once or twice "accidentally" as part of making sure the apothecary stays on the horse. Tandy chuckles to herself as the poor girl jumps each time.

Reason:
Asperum is actually more than a day far from Arthenas.
You'd have to ride for the whole night and well into the following morning before reaching it.

Please refer to the map excerpt here:
-> http://www.tickletheater.com/showthread.php?t=14114

As a rough estimate, Asperum is about 35 miles far from Bisanthium.
Overland travel takes time and involves risks; common people never bother.
Messengers on horse cover about 25 miles in 8 hours - as a rule of the thumb
Desperate travellers without carriage or steed can trudge at a slower pace - covering half as much on road, even less on broken ground.

Phenagon's cart left Bisanthium before noon; it covered about 15-20 miles in 8 hours. It reached the outskirts of Arthenas at dusk.

I am fairly flexible with time and distances, so people can play and meet freely, without too much book-keeping, but if you'd like to resume travelling towards Asperum, you'd have to ride by night.

This means your action for now would be over, since I'd like interacting players to stay on the same time/location thread.
If you'd like me to, I'll open the next Day thread, and have you wait for the other players to finish their actions. 🙂

Addendum:
Edited to incorporate original post as ending action for Day 03.

(OOC: WOW! I am impressed with how you wrote that piece about Draco Kalamos.)

Once Draco was lead into the building, he was asked to leave his weapons, every last one of them, on the foyer table. To show that he was true to his word, Draco laid his Battle Axe, Sword, and Daggers on the table and went upstairs. Draco made little to no converstation with any one in the building because he had a strange feeling. Draco declined the slave-maid that was offered to him for the night, knowing that she could easily betray him to these other humans. Draco was shown to his room that had no windows, a small cot, and a brazier that had coals in it. Once everyone left his room and Draco was all alone, he found a nice, comfortable perch, and rested. The coals in the brazier had gone cold and that arroused Draco.

"Well," Draco said staring into the brazier, "Time to reboost the coals." With that, Draco blew fire into the brazier so that once again, the coals were nice, hot, and adding a pleasant glow around the room. A familiar noise came to Draco's ear. Draco walked to the room's doorway, opened the curtain and peered outside.

"Sounds like the Captain is having a bit of fun tonight.".

Over-Ruled Part:

Draco said as he went back into the room and stopped short. A noise caught Draco's like a rustling behind a curtain in the opposite corridor grabbed the attention of Draco.

"Umm," Draco stated as he went into his room and closed the door, "Well, I guess I need to have some fun as well. Hopefully the sounds of extreme combat will scare stiff the person behind the curtain."

Draco began to exercise in the center of the room. Draco did sit-ups, push-ups, and then he decided to do the 'big guns'. Draco began to do some fighting manuevers with himself. What Draco had done, was to have a clone image of himself attack him. Draco loved the game that he had invented, which he called, "The Battle of the Clone". Draco and his clone fought for a good while until there came a knock at the door.

"What is it now," Draco though, but he forgot to 'end the game' by having the clone return to Draco's body. Draco's clone nailed Draco with a roundhouse kick right in the dead center of Draco's back.

"Ow," Draco said as he went flying to the ground. Just as the clone leaped for another attack, Draco ended the game. Draco got up, brushed himself off, and went to the door.

"Yes," Draco said as he opened the door, "What is it?"

(OOC: This is where Kalamos comes back into play. Hopefully the 'fighting' does not violate Kalamos's request for non-combat. I hope he meant no fighting the other characters in the building.)

Reason:

The door and the curtain are the same thing.
I am posting what Draco sees when he peers outside.
Draco's actions will be appended there.

Arthenas - Older Town - Goradus's Villa.

Peering outside his room, Draco sees the maid-slave quickly strolling by, robes flapping by her shapely slenger legs.

She is carrying a vase full of long feathers, brushes, and miscellaneous jingling objects.

She stops before a chamber, down the corridor, quickly raps on the doorway and waits by the closed curtain, staring at her toes.

Even by the soft, amber light of the flickering wall lamps, her skins looks surprisingly pale and smooth. Her features are delicate; her eyes long-lashed and faintly slanted upward.

As she knocks by the doorway, the laughing subsides.

The curtain opens; a male voice beckons the servant. The aygosian slave steps inside and shortly after the laughters resume, higher pitched than before.

Draco smiles to himself, closing the curtain behind.
"Humans..."
