Rambling...about TV Programming!

The Networks struggle to come up with content...

Sports programming does well...always...

ABC has a show entitled Nashville, The show is trying to find an audience...

The concept is pretty good..the writing is not bad at all...

The ratings are not very good!

It will be interesting to see if the top brass will let in last

even when the ratings are not clearly there...

NBC had a show entitled Hill Street Blues...

In the beginning the ratings were terrible...

The Network stuck with the show.. the ratings came later...

Once Upon A time is a new trend for TV but takes Disney/ABC back to

the finest traditions of Family Entertainment! Walt and Roy Disney had great vision.

The show is great! The Evil Queen is my favorite on that show...

ABC has Grey's Anatomy.. It is time to let the show end... I think...

The story lines are not fresh... I think perhaps that they should bring on

Dr Gregory House and his crazy style... Same Character different job...

Grey's has run too long... Send them to syndication... Like Friends and many other

shows... Pull the plug on it...

A new show... also on ABC...

Scandal has an interesting concept...I never have seen anything like it...

The show might make it...Lot's of drama, Subjects not easily accepted...

I think it is worth watching.

TV tends to just copy one thing over and over...

The original thinking is gone...The exec's are stale...everyone is afraid they will loose

their job.

I want to see something new...

Once upon a time is new on ABC

Mad Men is not new but on AMC...

In the past...

Mash, Taxi, Lavern & Shirley Carol Burnett Johnny Carson, La Law, Designing Women, It

takes a thief, The Wonderful World of Disney, Family Ties, Monday Night Football,(with

Howard Cosell), the first 20 years of Saturday Night Live, Laugh IN, the Smothers Brothers,

Miami Vice, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, American Band Stand, The Jetson's, Rocky and

Bullwinkle, Mork & Mindy...were the shows I waited for...were some of the shows I

remember. I considered them all to be quality shows...

It was a different time... before reality shows... and Game Shows like American Idol...

I think the new idol type shows have shamed Television. Get rid of them...

Green-light more shows like Once Upon A Time, Nashville...and Mad Men!

Was there an actual point to this? And they won't get rid of shows like American Idol. You might not like them but right now they're bringing in most of the ratings so they're not going to get rid of them... And I also like when original shows come around, and once in a while they do. The show Fringe (Which series fanale is tonight) is original. Although it only lasted 5 years.. of course i guess that's pretty long. ABC has a new show called The Last Resort, which is also original, however I don't know how it'll last more than like 2 seasons. But they might have a plan for it. I think they're kinda trying to duplicate their show Lost. And FOX also has a new show coming up called The Following. Obviously I don't know what it's really about because I haven't seen it but it kinda seems like it's going to be a new show. Yeah it's a cop show but it seems to be centered around the hunt for one serial killer instead of just be some cop show with different cases every episode. FOX show Bones is also original. It's a cop show but unlike other cop shows they get most of their evidence by studying bones. So there are original shows out there. Or at least shows that have original aspects such as the different cop shows but they have a different style or a different way to find the criminals. The CBS show NUMB3RS which ended a while back (And I'm watching right now on Ion Television) solved cases by math. I just wanted to point all those shows out because you said tv just copies other shows and doesn't do anything different, but they do. Unfortunately they also have to do a lot of shows that are similar because they know what types of shows gets ratings.

People watch too much tv....most of what is on is junk....

The point is I wanted to express my views regarding Prime time television.

I listed shows I watched... The Idol shows suck! The reality shows suck. The whole lot of them...

Jay Leno sucks, compared to Johnny Carson, I may be too hard on Leno, The new type cartoons suck,

Shows like Carol Burnett were popular but in my opinion compared to

shows like Idol... I can't watch this crap of today...

I did not tell you Idol does not have ratings... But this post is expressing my view that

the show sucks... I refuse to watch it.

The shows you listed I have never seen...

Another great show was Married with Children...

All Bundy was a great Character.

I understand the the CSI series shows does quite well...

Jerry Bruckheimer is a genius. Everything he touches turns to gold...

He should be running a Network... From Top Gun to Pirates of the Caribbean, to

CSI, He has a lot of hits...

Dallas, Dynasty and 21 jump street were also very cool shows...

When I say something sucks it is my way of saying I don't like it.

It is simply my opinion.

The comment that comes after yours regarding programming being trash is quite correct.

Mad Men is brilliant, Once upon a time is outstanding...

Grey's Anatomy was a good show but it has outlived it's time...

ABC needs to put it down... like a Vet would put an animal and take it out of it's misery...

When i write here I don't know if anyone will read it.

I just write to send my message to the Universe.

Who knows...who reads this I certainly don't..

If you have 3 heads or not I want you to know I think Idol and idol type shows...

Suck!

By the way HGTV has a show Love it or List it...

I like the show!

Kevin Costner made history this year on the History Channel with a Western...

The Hatfields and McCoys... Outstanding show...directed by Kevin Reynolds,

He and Costner worked before... Costner is a brilliant producer and actor...

Someone should let him bring a Western to prime-time television.

By the way thanks for your reply...

I dont watch much TV anymore most stuff thats on is not very good. The only show I really try to watch right now is Fringe on the science channel. That is actually a fairly good drama/sci fi show with good writing I think. 🙂

TV Exec's need to include some non executive types in the programming decisions...

I still think Once Upon a Time is great programming...

A Family Show shown in Prime-time... Amazing...

Disney should re-run Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, etc in Prime-time...

Monday-Friday 7 to 8 est Cartoons Watch the ratings!!!

ABC thinks it should be shown just on their cable channel...(mistake)

Disney owns the best cartoons ever made...

Sitting in the vault...

There are not many shows on TV that interest me so I end up watching The History Channel.

The changes are generational. You mentioned Married with Children, which I LOVED when I was younger. Every now and again, I still catch it when it comes on, and still get a chuckle out of it. However, most of the humor is now dated. Television is a business, and while much of what is out there is currently crap, people are devouring that crap, drawing in paying advertisers and drawing more money all around.

While I've also denounced "reality TV" in the past, I'm guilty of partaking in shows I've recently discovered I really enjoy. In a down economy, there are a number of reality-style shows that involve creative ways of making money, and I'm hooked on a few of them--most of which are on A&E.

-Storage Wars: People bid on the contents of abandoned storage lockers without being able to really explore them, deciding what lockers will have valuables based on context clues of what they CAN visibly see. After searching through the pile of crap they won, bidders find one or more trinkets they are able to appraise and sell for a significant profit. I've heard scandals that the show is fake, and has planted objects in these lockers, but the premise still fascinates me, and I'd still like to participate in a storage auction at some point.

-Shipping Wars: I never would have thought I'd be interested in anything pertaining to transportation logistics, but this show is awesome! Roy is my favorite asshole! 😛 I couldn't put up with half the crap they do, though.

-Barter Kings: These two guys have a business involving no cash--just trading up for items on Craigslist, and I like watching their negotiation tactics. Through a series of five or six trades with various people, these guys could start with a $150 designer purse, and trade all the way up to a vehicle worth several thousand dollars, all with no money! It's fascinating to watch them find a person who wants nothing but straight cash for their item, and to somehow find and fill a need that the person has, allowing them to acquire things at a greater value.

-Duck Dynasty: Coolest rednecks I've ever seen. A single family running their own business of selling duck-calls that turned it into a multimillion-dollar enterprise, yet you wouldn't know it from the silly antics and slacking off they engage in.

-Shark Tank: Another one I forgot to mention! People with great ideas for products or services pitching them to self-made millionaires in an attempt to build capital to fund their businesses.

I'm not a big fan of television either. Up until a few years ago the last tv show that I watched consistantly was the X-Files when it first came out. Then a few years ago a friend of mine let me borrow the first season of Sons of Anarchy on DVD and I was hooked. Such a gripping televsion show with tremendous storylines that keep you salivating for the next episode.

I have been told that Sons of Anarchy is a good show... I shall find it and see for myself...

AMC, FX and HBO all have pretty good programs. ESPN and NBC still do great in game coverage of sports

X Files was cool. Thats why I like Fringe its a bit X files like. 😀

I think X-Files is such a stupid show. And I love Sci-Fi shows.. just something about X-Files really annoys me. Fringe is so much better. But Fringe ended friday. What you watch are the re-runs. It's a Fox show.

On another show since somoene else mentioned it, I also hate Married with Children. 😛.

Thought Married with Children was a great show in it's day, but somehow watching the reruns today just doesn't have the same feel. I think it's been replaced by Modern Family. Never watched X-Files but was always a Star Trek fan. I think the two shows I watch most these days are Dexter and Game of Thrones.

Sports programming seems to do quite well...

I was hoping that people would talk about changes they want to see in programming...

or talk about specific shows they enjoy...

If you like AMC what shows likewise with HBO...

On HBO I enjoy Curb Your Enthusiasm and Eastbound and Down. On AMC I like Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead. On FX I'm a fan of Louie and Wilfred

The only thing that annoyed me with X files was it seemed the conspiracies just never ever stopped.

I am watching it on the Science Channel not on fox. Did not know it ended? Did Sci pick it up?

Thanks for you updated answer...

I am told by many that Breaking bad is an outstanding show...

I have only seen a part of a show...
