One of the messages for Ross in the den was from Alan Hell.
"Ross, I just wanted to let you know that our office got sued today by none other than our buddy Tom. As you know his license is at least on temporary suspension. Well, he also is trying to sue you for "Inference in , and meddling in, Timothy's case" Just open the lawsuit, say nothing, and send it to me. I have to look and see exactly what it says. Legally I might not be able to represent you myself, but if not I am going to find you the best lawyer I can, and ask him to take your case on contingency, and then send any charges you incur in a damages lawsuit to Tom. If said lawyer wants a retainer, just pay it, and we will attach it to a damages lawsuit. This could get wild, but it could also be fun" Alan said, as Alan's voice clicked off and Ross shook his head.
The next message was from Timothy.
"Ross, Tom from Philadelphia called me. He told me that he is going to sue you for interference with my case. I had nothing to do with this, and none of this came from me. Please just do what you have to do with him and keep it separate" Tim said, as Ross shook his head again and sighed.
Ross came back in the bedroom with a huge smirk on his face, and Kayley looked at him.
"Problem?" she asked.
"No, Alan Hell just told me that a lawsuit is coming to the office tomorrow from Tom from Philadelphia. According to Alan Hell, the suit is going to accuse me of interfering with Timothy's case that was being handled by Tom. I'm sure that knowing my luck, it will probably also say that I was somehow responsible for Tom being fired by Alan's firm Alan told me to take the lawsuit, read it, send it to him, and he will send it to a friend of his who can represent me, and I can in turn either try to have it thrown out, or to sue Tom on whatever charges they can come up with legally. I'm too tired to worry about it now. I will deal with it in the morning" Ross said, kissing Kayley goodnight.
The next morning, Kayley kissed Ross goodbye, and Ross got out of bed, was in the office at ten, where a man was sitting in a chair near the office front door.
"Ross C?" The man asked.
"Yes, I'm Ross C" Ross said.
"I'm a process server and you've just been legally served" The man said, handing Ross and envelope and leaving.
Ross opened the envelope. Sure enough, as expected, Ross was sued by Tom for "Interfering with a client case Tom was representing, Involvement in termination of Tom's employment, and other technical charges"
"Good Morning Ross" Ross's secretary Ashley said.
"Morning, Ashley, please hold all calls until I open the door, I must make a very important phone call" Ross said, going into his office, closing his door, and taking out his cell phone, as he hit Alan Hel's number.
Alan answered. "Good Morning, I guess you have it?" Alan said.
"Yes, interfering with a client case, and that I was involved in your firm terminating his employment. Next thing you know, Alan, the SOB will be accusing me of having involvement in having his license suspended" Ross said, almost in disbelief.
"Put it in a FEDEX envelope and send it to me. I will send the court a letter saying that while I argue that those charges are false, you need a continence to answer, to find counsel as I would represent you, but cannot due to conflict of interest that I cannot represent you because it was my firm that terminated him. Don;t worry , Ross, it will be thrown out after a time, it is all a bunch of bullshit from a man just looking to shoot off his legal mouth wildly" Alan said,.
Ross laughed. "Thanks, Alan. Nice way to start a day. Talk to you later" Ross said.
Ross's next call was to Timothy.
"Timothy. I just got sued by your boy Tom from Philadelphia. Alan Hell told me that he has to turn down my case due to conflict of interest, or he would take my case himself. Soooo. while I find a lawyer, I also know that while you claim not to, as usual, it was your situation that got me into this whole situation. I forgive you, and will still be your best friend, and do your work, because I also realize that you did not tell him to sue me" Ross said, almost in a put down tone of voice.
"Come on, Ross. A guy that used to work at Alan Hell's firm who got fired, suing you that you were involved in his firing? How am I responsible for that?" Tim argued.
"Simple, you never should have been playing around with Alan's firm anyway, with thousands of other lawyers in this city, and knowing how important Alan is to Fritz, Steve, and I. Do me a favor, keep your nose out of Alan's firm, and out of this. Your work and anything else you need gets done by John, me and my firm as always. In the meantime, I plan to play hardball with Tom on anything I can just to have fun. He wont be getting another job anytime soon, because his license is on suspension. Oh how I love fun!" Ross said, hanging up the phone.
Ross worked through the morning on mundane paperwork, bored out of his mind, when someone he did not know well called him.
"Ross, I have a company that you can turn over immediately, and wont cost you that much" The guy said.
"Okay, but I need a few days. I just got back from a business trip, and had to deal with a problem this morning. I'm reading through a pile of reports, and need some time" Ross said.,
"End of the week?" Ross offered to the man
"Friday, we will talk on Thursday" The man said.
Who was that man?
Then , Ross's day got even more interesting when Fritz called.
"Ross, we need you to come down here for two days next week early in the week. The week after next, Steve and I are going up to Anchorage to start to deal with things up there"Fritz said.
"Okay, name the day, and I will be there. I've already had a lovely day. I got sued by Alan Hell and Timothy's boy Tom from Philadelphia this morning. A process server was waiting for me literally as I entered the office" Ross said.
" Ugh, what a nice way to start a day" Fritz said.
"I will be fine. Alan Hell is going to refer me to a good lawyer since he cant take it, because his firm terminated Tom's employment. " Ross said.
On the way home in the Uber, Ross kept shaking his head with a smirk on his face.
He went upstairs, unlocked the door, and was still shaking his head.
"What's the shake, market boy" Kayley said, kissing Ross.
"Tom from Philadelphia sued me today, and I have to go back to OKC next week before Fritz and Steve head off to Alaska" Ross said.
"I'm glad you're not going up there"" Kayley said.
"I cant, or I would end up in the hospital, either from my health, or from you putting me there" Ross said.
That night , after making love with Kayley, Ross awakened in the middle of the night, and went through the lawsuit with a fine tooth comb.
While Ross was not a lawyer, and Alan Hell said that it would be thrown out, was the suit more serious, and would it cause more trouble than either Ross or Alan thought it would?
That would be seen.
