Thing one:
Just saw Jewel's new video "Intuition" on my "Real One Player" (God I miss "real audio", but I digress) I hadn't seen the video prior to today, too much time surfing the web to watch TV and all, you know... but my brother had said that the video is cool, and funny and stuff, so when I saw the opportunuty to view it on my AIM page, I clicked on the link, and downloaded the video. Oh My God. Yes she is hot. Yes she has a reasonably pleasant singing voice. Yes I'd like to engage in a seventeen hour tickle fight with her (oops, wrong forum) BUT.... Has anyone noticed that the song, the video, the style of dinging, and even the damn camera angles are completely ripped off from Shakira's "Whenever, Wherever" and "Objection"? Jewel has made an entire career out of copying what's popular; and while I will agree that she does it well, we have yet to hear JEWEL'S sound.
I got into a fistfight once for making the same argument about the Rolling Stones. So I won't make anyone pissy at me today. I just wanted to vent my frustration at a truly talented artist selling out to the almighty Top 40.
Thing Two: (When is that Mike Myers "Cat in the Hat" movie coming out?)
At 12:38 this afternoon, my doorbell rang. It was the Fed-Ex man or woman, I didn't get a good look, delivering my very own, first edition copy of (U)Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix(/U). I shall begin reaing it tonight, and will see you all 800 some-odd pages later....
