Types of TV show

Hello, hello.

Types of TV show that you would like to see more of? Less of? That you wish would bugger off and die a horrible death? lol

Speaking for myself, it kinda blows my mind that singing ("talent") shows still enjoy such popularity. I get the impression that their viewing figures maybe aren't quite what they were a few years ago... But they do get millions of viewers, all the same. Why? It's karaoke. That's all it is - just with a big prize at the end of it lol. When will people get sick of this shit?! lol

One thing I'd like to see more of is anthology series. Seems like almost every TV drama you see has to have a narrative arc which spans god knows how many episodes... There's a series in Britain called Inside No.9 where every episode is like a short play. It's really well written. But it's just nice to watch a drama that's half-an-hour long, different story each week. Maybe I just get bored watching the same characters for hours, I dunno.

Any thoughts? 🙂

With dozens to hundreds of channels some of the channels have to have shit shows some of the time.
I gave up on wondering how some of the crap continues to be on TV, I just change the channel.

For me the best TV are Sports shows in particular, the NFL, MLB, and NBA.
It's actually reality TV if you think about it but instead of a bunch of Joe Blows they have top notch professional athletes.

For non-sports shows I suggest the Paranormal Witness / Paranormal Survivor Series shows.
May not technically be an Anthology Series but they have different actors each show and each show stands alone.
It is a drama created based on eye witness testimony.
The eye-witnesses help narrate the drama.
I think most of the shows can be enjoyed whether or not you believe a particular story.

I'd like to see shows like the old Rowan & Martin's Laugh In, Monty Python's Flying Circus, the Carol Burnett Show.... we kinda have those at late night, but they just aren't the same.

Think I've heard of that show but haven't seen it. It's funny cos I'm a big fan of fiction of that type, but I'm incredibly sceptical about the subject itself. I'd probably ruin it for myself by trying to find logical explanations for whatever phenomena the witness was describing! lol

Can't say I've heard of Rowan & Martin's Laugh In. But yeah... Some decent sketch comedy would be good. In Britain, the whole genre has been dead (like certain parrots lol) for, I dunno, a dozen years, maybe. I just get on Youtube whenever I'm in the mood for some old stuff.

Also, if you're a fan of surreal sketch comedy, I'd recommend Big Train (it originally aired some time around the late 90s). The gymnast sketch and the This Is Your Life sketch are a couple of personal favourites. 🙂

Laugh-In was an off the wall comedy show that aired 1968-1973 and launched several careers including Goldie Hawn. One of the catch phrases was "Sock it to Me" and even the stuffy Richard Nixon got in on it.



Somewhat more on topic I am sick to death of so called "reality" shows. But I suppose they are easy and fairly inexpensive to produce and unlikely to go away anytime soon.

Another good one with Laugh-In was when Sammy Davis Jr. would guest, as The Judge - "Here come de judge, here come de judge...". You had to see the show(s) to appreciate the craziness (and it was mostly mild, since it was prime-time TV). Definitely not as wild as Saturday Night Live was (haven't watched that in several years now...).

Sammy was always great on that show, along with Lily Tomlin as the switchboard operator Ernestine ("We don't care. We don't have to. We're the telephone company.") and Arte Johnson - ("Veeery interesting.") 😀

There were a lot of great skits on the Carol Burnett show.... and it was always great when they couldn't keep a straight face through the skit.
