Okay, after an abyssmal record of 1/4 at the last card, I stand 53/75 (70.6%). I remain hopeful that I can go out the year on a high note with the last 10 calls in the next 10 days.

TUF 10 Finale

Jones def. Mitrione by KO/TKO
Slice def. Alexander by KO/TKO
Edgar def. Veach by Decision
Hamill def. Jones by Decision
(Sadly) Nelson def. Schaub by lying the hell on top of him and throwing prissy nothing punches until the ref pulls him off in disgust and disgrace for the sport, just like Nelson's three wins up until this point.

UFC 107: Penn vs. Sanchez

Buentello def. Struve by KO/TKO
Florian def. Guida by Submission (which is too bad. I'd love to see Guida get a title shot.)
Fitch def. Pierce by Decision
Mir def. Kongo by Submission (either that or Kongo by monstrous KO. Either way, it's not leaving Round 1)
Penn def. Sanchez by Submission (if this isn't Fight of the Year, it'll be top 3)

See you Saturday, hopefully with a finish of 63/85!

Jones/Mitrione ~ Jones via TKO
Slice/Alexander ~ Alexander via KO
Edgar/Veach ~ Edgar via dec.
Hamill/Jones ~ Jones via TKO
Nelson/Schaub ~ Nelson via dec.

Buentello/Struve ~ Buentello via TKO
Florian/Guida ~ Guida via dec.
Fitch/Pierce ~ Fitch via dec.
Mir/Kongo ~ Kongo via TKO
Penn/Sanchez ~ Penn via TKO

Yeah,Penn/Sanchez could easily be one of the best fights of the year.I'm really looking forward to that bout. You're right about Mir/Kongo also.I just don't see Mir getting close enough for a takedown without getting pummeled on the way in and he has never been one to take punishment well.Even though Mir's stand up has improved, this is really a throwback matchup between striker and grappler which are usually entertaining.

I just read up on some other noteworthy news that I'll mention real quick. How about Gilbert Yvel vs. Dos Santos at 108?Sweet fight.I'm glad to see Yvel in the UFC because it adds a little more depth to an evergrowing HW division.

Melvin Manhoef in Strikeforce is another great signing. He's in the same boat as Yvel in the fact that he is a explosive striker with subpar ground skills.A couple fights I'd like to see are Manhoef/Lawler and Yvel/Crocop.

Also the K-1 quarterfinals are this weekend and it's a pretty stacked event. If Overeem wins the tournament it would really spice up the potential bout with Fedor.I've watched K-1 bouts in the past but I'm really excited about this event. It kinda sucks getting up at 2,3 in the morning to watch the Japanese events but it's usually worth the effort.

What I'll have to do is go back and tally up my picks.I missed several months in the beginning so I'll have to tally up what I have.I don't think I'm anywhere near 70%,my picks weren't always the greatest.I wouldn't worry to much about 1/4 on the last card because that beats my 0/5 on the 104 card. 😛 I don't know what I was thinking when I made those predictions.Even though,it should have been 1/4. 🙂

Right now, UFC 106 is my worst card this year by a long shot. I've had a few 3/5, but nothing as low as 25%.

On the other hand, the Stirkeforce tv card and the TUF 9 finale, I went 4/4 and 5/5 respectively. But more on that after Dec 12, when I do my year-in-review thread. 😀

I'll look forward to that thread. It's definately been a memorable year for mma and one worth looking back on.There have been a lot of career defining bouts. It seemed to start with a bang and then fizzle down but I see it just the opposite for 2010.

TUF 10

Jones/Mitrione
Mitrione has no groundgame.
Slice/Alexander
Could go in either way. Alexander a larger arsenal of strikes (knees, low kicks), but Kimbo has a puncher chance.
Edgar/Veach
Edgar has faced tougher opponents.
Hamill/Jones
Jones trains with Greg Jackson now.
Nelson/Schaub
Nelson is more experienced and more versatile.

UFC 107

Buentello/Struve
Most of Buentello's losses came by sub and Struve has a quite good groundgame.
Florian/Guida
Guida is inconsistent
Fitch/Pierce
So far, GSP is the only one who managed to beat Fitch
Mir/Kongo
Bad match-up for Kongo
Penn/Sanchez
I pick Sanchez for the upset. Cardio will be the key.

I wish they could set up a Silva/St. Pierre fight... would be a dream matchup

Look for it end of summer next year. Silva's next fight is against Vitor Belfort, which was going to be in January, but has been pushed back. GSP gets Dan Hardy in the Spring once his groin heals.

Both guys should win those fights. If they do and no clear #1 contender is named soon afterwards, we could see Silva/GSP for the Middleweight belt (or maybe a catchweight) as soon at July or August.

Incidently, GSP has also started training specifically in freestyle wrestling for the next summer Olympics. 🙂

And the darkness gets his lights turned out....or on? o.0

Huge props to Mitrione, Nelson and Edgar. I'm really impressed with all of them.

Huge let down with Hamill and Jones. I'd love to see a rematch.

And Kimbo, not hugely impressed with a finish, but I am impressed with his impressed skills.

4/5 tonight. 57/80 on the year. :woot:

I have to be honest, i was expecting more from alexander. While mr slice did impress me. He showed alot of improvement in his ground game but still has alot of work on.

Im looking for a rematch with the hamil fight.

Roy big country nelson didnt suprise me. I knew he was gunna lay and pray. Dude is like a fucken tank. He can take alot of punishment with his girth. However, he has very good strikinging power. Hes also in good fighting shape which suprising me. I cant believe i am saying this but he has good cardio. Im a big dude myself but i have no metabolism. I wonder how he does it.:rotate:

that was bull, hits him with the elbows then they take a point.. hamill says he cant continue and bones wins

then after commercial they come back and hamill wins by dq??? very stupid, bones dominated that fight

Oh man,the UFC really hit a rough patch during this last quarter of 09.I didn't see all the fights live Saturday but rather followed the play by play on Sherdog.I'm reading what people are saying about the Slice fight and then someone posted this,

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xDO0afWNH5E&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xDO0afWNH5E&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

...I burst out laughing.I could only imagine what was going on inside that octagon. The UFC just can't seem to get a break.I find it amazing that bout went the distance. Was a Slice victory good for the UFC?Who are they going to match him up with next?Kimbo has been involved in some strange fights. The Cantrell,Tank and now this bout all played out oddly to say the least.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Jones dominated the fight from the bell. However, the rules state that if you hit an intentional illegal move (in this case, downward elbows to the head) and your opponent can't continue as a result, it's a DQ loss for the infractor, not the victim.

Such is the bread of an every-day life. And yes, expect a rematch early in 2010. 🙂

Ironically, Jones looked stronger than ever despite his loss. The DQ is controversial because Hamill's shoulder was dislocated just after the takedown. So the fight could have been stopped before Jones landed that illegal elbow. :facepalm2:
In my eyes, a no contest would have been a better decision.

Last card of the year tonight! I've already got much of my Year-End post written up, but a lot can happen in one card.

A card that almost didn't happen. Sanchez needed two attempts to make weight. Possibly the fight of the year and we almost had a repeat of Silva vs. Lutter. 😵

Anywho, see you all tonight!
