Upgrading Internet Explorer?

I just went to the Family Channel website to look up programming, and was told I have an old version of web browser/ IE. I just clicked it on, and it said my IE is version 6.0, which I'm guessing is rather ancient. I'm not sure how to get a new version of Internet Explorer. Any advice of how I might do so would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mitch

I still use version 6 have not had any problems. Anicient aint necessarily bad. 😛

Thanks for the replies. I'm not having any "problems" either, Kurch. What I described happened at the Family Channel site, but besides that, it seems okay.

I've been a bit reluctant to switch, fearing it would throw off my whole computer. I'm going to look into this further.

Upgrade it all the way to Firefox at

www.getfirefox.com

I did years ago at version 0.7 and have never looked back. I would uninstall IE from my system altogether if I could.

Yanno, while I'd normally advocate slapping the Kurchman upside the head with a smelly fish for that statement I am as guilty of this as he. I refuse to upgrade Firefox to version 3 due to my disgust with the so-called "Awesomebar".

That aside, I would strongly advocate upgrading IE if you are able. Older versions harbour many, MANY security risks and unpatched vulnerabilities, especially old versions of Internet Explorer. I'd highly recommend acquiring an alternative browser if you don't want to upgrade IE but want more security. The already mentioned Firefox is a good choice, as are Apple's Safari, Opera's ... err, Opera and Google's Chrome.

Thanks for the advice, HDS. I'm going to look into upgrading IE first.

If you download and install the IE7 or IE8 program, it won't bugger up your favorites or cookies. It will just import them over to the new installation.

What kind of smelly fish? 😛

Usually Microsoft trades one set of security holes for another. At some point I will upgrade I suppose as the newer versions should have the bugs worked out but with Microsoft I am always cautious. Just look at Vista. 😛

I still use IE6 - IE7 offers more security features, I use it at work, but I still prefer IE6.

Don't get Safari unless you have a mac. It's a bit fuzzy with the PC and I wouldn't recommend it. Chrome is ok. Never tried opera. Firefox is always nice, but it always wants to update itself, which can sometimes be annoying. IE 7 is nice and familiar, but lacks some of the functionality that Firefox has IMO. Personally, I would recommend having the latest versions of IE and Firefox. They're both nice and you can interchange usage.
