Very strange

I was tickling my 20 year old niece the other day and even though she appeared ticklish, there was no laughter. Just alot of squirming and noises. She was holding it in so well I guess; that she could not let go. I had never tickled her before but being someone who likes to tickle, I saw an oppertunity I couldn't resist. I tried to break her by going for her arm pits which I thought were a weak spot for just about anyone (myself included) but it didn't work. I must of tickled her for at least 5 minutes.

What can I do to make her relax and let go?

Hmmm...can you perhaps describe the way in which you tickled? I know some ticklees are more sensitive to soft tickling, or if you're referring to the emotional side of letting go. i guess it's more of how comfortable she feels in being tickled.
My observation is that if a ticklee is not comfortable with being tickled, he/she will be less sensitive.

She didn't seem to care too much. Actually, I think she thought of it as a teast of will, so to speak. She was lying on the couch reading and I just sat beside her and started to tickle her. I was actually hoping she would tickle me back; but no such luck. Maybe I'm just not a very good tickler.

maybe she just isn't that ticklish.....but i prefer the idea that you just got to keep tickling until she cracks...they all do eventually ;-)

Try another body parts, i was tickling a female friend, that weren't ticklish i almost all body, but in her feet, ha ha !!!!, here i make her to laugh during 1 hour. Believe me, i tryed armpits, belly, neck, sides without result until try her beautiful bare feet !!!!. There are persons with differents ticklish spots and too there are persons not ticklish. You only must to try in all body parts possibles, before give up !!!. 😉 😀

I may not even get the chance to tickler her again. As I said, it was a spur of the moment thing. I only tickled her that long because I was surprised how well she was controlling her laughter. I don't see her that often and I wouldn't want her to think I'm strange. I couldn't just pin her down and tell her that I'm going to tickle her until she cracks......(although I would like to) But thanks for your insights so far. I just thought it was strange......never seen anyone react that way to tickling before.
