Monday is Veterans Day. This is a day to offer thanks to the brave men and women who have served or are serving with honor and are still with us, and those who have passed on to the other side.

Yesterday I was going through my mother's scrap books and found my father's honorable discharge from the United States Army as a Staff Sargent, dated January 27, 1946, issued at Fort Dix, New Jersey.

And I wish I had tomorrow off, but I don't. 🙁

Glad you appreciated it chaps. Its perhaps less well known in the States because the Burma Campaign was largely a British Empire affair although that well known Anglophile General Stilwell was involved for a while.

Ah yes, Vinegar Joe was quite a character. Could you suggest some reading material about the Burma Campaign written from a British perspective?

Yes "Defeat in to Victory" which is General Bill Slims account of the Burma Campaign.

The other notable British figure from the Burma campaign is of course Orde Wingate who created the famous Chindits who operated behind Japanese lines.
