video games are of the devil

And before that is was that "Rock & Roll Music", and beofre that... I can't even tell

And before all of that, there were the dreaded BOOKS! Books give people sinful ideas and should be forbidden! Oh no; Burn them!!!

See how much times really change? Authoritarians always behave exactly the same, they fear ideas taking root in the heads of other people...

As technology takes ever greater strides forward and our culture adapts accordingly, each generation passes judgement on the next for no reason other than "It wasn't like that in our day". Since the industrial revolution, such change has become more accelerated and so the effect is amplified. I wouldn't waste my time thinking about it too much. Human beings like things to be familiar to them for many reasons, one being that it affirms their lifestyle and beliefs.

That be my two cents, but what do I know a young whipper-snapper like me.

Communists, which included civil rights, women's rights, comic books and tap water.

Comic books can lead to Fluoridation! (and other Commie preversions)

My buddy who's over-50 was telling me how they'd confiscate Mad Magazines when he was in school. Mad Magazine was all that remained of EC Comics after the Senate hearings in the 50s (EC Comics published Tales From The Crypt, a comic book which caused Juvenile Delinquency in its readers!)

And some chieftan 30,000 years ago probably banned cave-painting....

Funny you should mention this. I've just been listening to this rather apropos book on CD.

OK, so it made teenage kids stop paying their bills on time...🙂.

The newspaper in my own home town recently ran a feature on a 1949 comic book burning, organizaed by local churches, which took place not far from where I type these words. When the Nazis or the Communists do things like this, it's bad. But when it's done in the name of Freedom, or Morality...

Anyway, because of the Comics Code, a lot of the comics I grew up with were about as interesting as a fast-food cheeseburger. When the underground comics (R. Crumb, et.al.) came along in the late 60's, I didn't look back!

I like video games but I often have a lot of trouble finishing them.I just couldn't bring myself to finish Clock Tower 3.It was,for lack of a better word, stupid. You couldn't do anything but run from the guy chasing Alyssa.I managed to finish Mario but now I need a new game for my Nintendo DS so,if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

I couldn't finish "Moon" for the Nintendo DS, don't know why. Maybe cause you're only on the Lunar surface for one level, then it becomes an underground "Doom" clone, but without any cool enemies...

Can't wait for Dementium 2!!!!!

hmm,well what is Dementium?Sounds interesting.

It's called "Dementium; The Ward" for the DS. You wake up in a dark hospital. There's debris and blood stains all over the place. It's a VERY claustrophobic horror game, a lot like Doom. The audio is incredible, and you actually depend on the sound much of the time (to hear where monsters are coming from etc) It's almost impossible to play with the sound turned off.

Throughout the game you get visions and flashbacks of who you are and what happened at the hospital to create all these monsters, and of people who may be your wife and daughter (you're not sure exactly who you are through most of the game) It's not all shooting, there's puzzles to solve too, and clues to figure out. Plus you read note pages you find scattered throughout the hospital. Oh, and you have a "notepad" where you can write notes via the touch-screen. This helps for jotting down clues and codes you find.

My only complaints? There's not enough "Boss" monsters- there's only about 4, but they're all absolutely nightmarish. And it seems too short; there's whole areas of the hospital you can never get to unless there's some secret doors I never found.

This is by far my favorite DS game (tied with Geometry Wars)
