That's not the best way to be watching clips. As you said, it does sometimes work, but often it won't. Try right-clicking on the attachment link and selecting "Save link as" or "Save target as" and then save the clip to your computer. Once downloaded, open the clip on your computer where you saved it and play it then. Takes a small amount of extra effort but always works. If that fails you have a problem on your side with playing the clip; a missing codec, perhaps. We can diagnose that if so.
