ok, i could use some help from the resident techies.

yesterday, i was watching a clip from Family Guy on surfthechannel.com. after i started to watch it, a virus warning popped up. i took care of it, then my computer rebooted unexpectedly. now my Firefox web browser will not go to my homepage (at least, it wasn't earlier; it is now). instead, it was giving me an Unsafe Internet warning, and gave me a link to go to a website that one of my programs says isn't safe. along with that, every minute or so, i keep getting this Security Center Alert, presumably from my OS, saying that a worm trojan called Win32.Netsky.Q is trying to access my system.

so far, i have done everything i can think of: ran my anti-apyware, anti-virus, deleted cookies and offline info, and it still keeps popping up.

what do i need to do to get rid of this thing?

thanks.

No one antivirus program is able to get all infections. It sounds like your system has met one of the few it does not know how to handle. What antivirus program and/or firewall software do you use? Once known, we can suggest alternatives. TrendMicro does have a free online antivirus scanner called HouseCall; it is worth a try before doing anything else.

DVNC.. if you run the housecall will they try to get you to buy it?

HDS is not the Deviant One, although I'll take his voice over mine any day. 😀

They try to, but you don't have to. It is not a program you download and install in the traditional sense, merely an online tool that scans your computer. For instance, clicking on the first "Click here for FREE Scan!" link takes you to a page where they try to get you to buy the full retail produce. Just choose "Get HouseCall Free Scan" to bypass that.

I don't know if you've solved your problem yet, but my son, who bravely runs his system nearly around the clock with no antivirus program at all (he claims it uses too much of his system's resources) caught a particularly vicious spyware a couple months ago which he said he spent about eight hours of continuous effort trying to eradicate, using Spybot S&D and others, but the one which finally eradicated the problem was PC Tool's "Spyware Doctor", which he got a trial version of from their site, and when they were unsuccessful in goading him into paying for the registered program, as a "last resort" they directed him to the "Google Pack", through which he was able to obtain the full program for free. It's only one of numerous options, but as something to try if you want, the Google Pack can be downloaded free at this link he gave me:

http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack...n_US-et-more&utm_medium=et&utm_campaign=en_US

There are a number of other optional programs in the "pack", but if you go to the above page you can just select the one(s) you want before clicking the download button, selecting only the Spyware Doctor if that's all you want. Although I see that Norton Security Scan is also one of the offerings if you think that's worth checking out (although that may be what you already have for all I know). This all assumes you have either Windows XP or Vista.
