Recently I did a complete virus scan after finding out that my PC was not "acting" right.

I did the sweep/scan with Norton and it found 7 files that were infected. It claimed they could not be repaired.

Then I went on to McAfee and gave them a try after canceling my Norton virus protection since they are all but useless.

McAfee found the same 7 infected files and noted they at this time they could not repair them but instructed me to give them another try in 24 hours as they were "updating" they protection process.
The Next day, I did another sweep, 7 files found corrupted 7 files cleaned out and fixed in a matter of minutes(although the scan took over an hour, even with my having "Cable Broadband") but they took care of the problem which Norton said was UNrepairable and irreversable damage was done to my PC.

Please check out McAfee ASAP to check out your PC as there are a few listed NEW and "CONFIRMED" viruses that are out there.

Yeah, there's a few newer PC viruses causin' havoc via email. Annoyin', too. I use a mail for mail, and thus don't have the virus.

Unfortunately, newer strains LOOK like they are sent from one person by setting a reply field to another user in your email address book. Wanna know how? Dig this:

Return-Path: <[email protected]>
Received: from rly-xj04.mx.aol.com (rly-xj04.mail.aol.com [172.20.116.41]) by air-xj01.mail.aol.com (v88.20) with ESMTP id MAILINXJ14-0904115949; Wed, 04 Sep 2002 11:59:49 -0400

From: USER <[email protected]>
To: [email protected]

Note where the "Received:" at the top and the "From" are different? That's a spoof of the "From" address. The virus simply takes two names and sends to them. More sophisticated email programs force an originating address in the headers. The headers for this were FROM verizon.net. How does an AOL user mail from Verizon? They don't. AOL mail goes through AOL first.
When you get virus mail, it may not be from who you THINK it's from. The sender also likely doesn't know they're infected until you tell them. This strain of virii has had several modifications over time, and as TTD notes, is tough to catch. The actual sender MAY NOT EVEN BE SHOWN. That's how this virus is.

Updates from the antivirus software will correct this soon enough. Until then, do consider setting your email application to AVOID opening attachments or running code or scripts sent to you. It's generally a bad idea to begin with.

TTD, havin' been part of the original team of engineers that MADE the Norton Antivirus 1.0, I'd be hurt, if the damned thing was behavin'. It *should* allow you to update online. If they don't have the virus patch yet, they will, soon enough. Sorry they ain't servin' ya well, brother. Used to be a good app. Ain't used it in a while on the PC, though, so I no longer can say. My PC doesn't get online. It's thus virus free at present.

What a drag, though.

Get checked, kids. There's trial versions of McAfee and Norton's software. I do encourage all with PCs to buy one, and soon. I get SO much mail from folks that don't know the virus is outting them to me, to my dvnc and Grimm addresses.

Thanks for the info and response dvnc!

By the way, if I had known you were part of the original team of engineers of Norton, I would have gone with McAfee much sooner!😛 😉 😀

Ps. As always, great to hear from you my brother! Hope to see ya again soon!
