Hi All! I went to the doctor a few days ago (just a check up). They took some blood and called back the next day.

Turns out my D3 levels were very low (I don't know what a normal D3 level is, but mine was 21)

The doctor put me on a weekly D3 pill (50,000 units) but told me to continue taking me normal D3 pill.

I started looking at my D3 more closely, and noticed one of the ingredients was Talc. I know that Talc can cause cancer (I'm already pretty high risk for cancer, from my dad's side. So I don't need anything that may make my risk worse)

So, yesterday I went to the store and got another bottle of D3 (another brand) but, I was looking at the ingredients and (don't ask me why) one of them stuck out to me.

When I got home I looked it up, and sure enough, can cause blindness.

So, my question is. Do any of you know a good D3 supplement that doesn't have any strange ing in it?

P.S. And, no red dye. I have an allergy to it.

I take 10,000u of vitamin d every day for the last 3 years. My levels were basically 0 despite living in AZ. I haven't gone blind yet.

If you live near a Sprouts, Natural Grocer, or something similar they usually have a big vitamins section and might be able to help. Otherwise, just ask a pharmacist

Talc itself doesn't cause cancer. Some talc deposits MAY contain small amounts of asbestos, but even then, you have to have the right kind of asbestos to POSSIBLY cause cancer. Depending on where you live, you might actually be breathing in small amounts of various asbestos minerals; not a whole lot you can do about it.

You might want to check the ingredients of your meds. I had never saw this name on anything before. it was hydro-something, long name.

I just worry a lot about getting cancer. I mean, both my grandparents (on my dads sibe) died from it, my uncle died from it, it is one of the things that got my dad, and my aunt has it.

So, I am at a pretty high risk as it is. So, when I hear something about cancer, I pay extra attention.

Generally speaking, cancers that run in familial lines, ones that have heritable features aren't necessarily exacerbated or even triggered by environmental factors but DNA sequences in regions that control gene expression or nucleotide repair. As far as I know, only a few cancers exhibit strong heritability and those are generally lower GI tract cancers. As for the talc, I think it was implicated in certain ovarian tumors and the asbestos appears to trigger lung inflammation when you inhale the fibers, ultimately contributing to mesothelioma. It's hard to say without knowing more about the formulation why talc is included in that supplement. It's probably not bioavailable and so passes out of your system without any issue.
But, if it's a cause for concern Nature's Bounty does seem to have a good reputation.

Honestly, I don't really know if there is a legal law in the US that forces companies to guarantee that vitamin or health drug supplements actually have to contain the ingredients they advertise on the packaging.
