Wacky Weightloss Woes

Hey all..

In honour of Thanksgiving, the comming holiday season and the ubiquotous(sp) 5 or 10 lbs the average Amercican adds to their frame during this season of merry eating,(not to mention the New Yr's resolutions to take it off!).....
What's the wackiest, strangest thing you've done to lose weight, be it 2 lbs or 200 lbs? If you did lose the weight, what finally worked for you?

For me I've done everything from Silmfast( good until I started using them as a SNACK NOT a meal repalcement! LOL) , the grapefruit diet, the lettuce, carrots and cottage cheese diet(during which my friends @ college nicknamed me "Bugs) and even some dangerous stuff like Ephedra(I did ECA stacking for a while.. for those of you who don't know what that is.. it's a supposedly fat burning mix of Ephedra, caffine and Asprine, popular with bodybuilders and dieters alike) . I never did do Phen/Fen, but for a while DID do Xenecal( eww what a nasty product!!)
Finally after a lot of trial and error I sort of invented my own plan: A mix of a Modified version of the Atkins diet( way less saturated fat than he reccomends, more non- starchy veggies , and the occational piece of whole grain bread) and exercise, and this seemed to work for me( Disclamer: I am NOT advocating weight loss or a particular diet.. IMHO YMMY when it comes to diets/eating plans.. what works for one person might not be good for another). I'm just curious as to what methods my fellow TMF'ers have tried to shed to lbs.

Strangest thing I have ever done to lose weight...
Well, from time to time, I eat fruits that are quite dense and/or fibrous in nature (e.g. honeydew, figs, etc.) in the hopes of cleaning out my system and taking a few pounds in the process, yanowatamsayin'?

But, unfortunately, I haven't been down to my "fighting" weight since my late teens. 🙁

Damn twinkies...lol.😛

I fluctuate between 180 and 240 a lot, depending on how much weight lifting I do versus cardio. I feel best at around 200-210 in terms of overall health/strength and flexibility. I use various versions of the Zone diet system. Atkins is a bit extreme for me, and there's a lot of talk about rebound and celluar damage if you make it a long term program. Stupidest thing I ever did was sweat off 10 pounds in 2 days to make a boxing weight...THAT didn't work out well at all...lol. Q
 
I liked the Pineapple Diet best: You can eat everything but pineapples... 😀

Serious now: I used to be a beanstalk while eating for 4 adults until I had to get my thyroid glands removed. For the next 10 years, I gained weight constantly although I reduced eating to normal amounts. When I had reached 200 lbs, I made all diets my doctor proposed, but the only result was a jojo-effect. Then I stopped dieting, and I kept my weight mostly.

Nowadays I have about 250 lbs (I'm 6'2"), but I'm losing about 2 lbs per month. Not due to any diet, just changing my eating habits by and by, just enough not to miss anything. And I'm afraid I started that too late, as I already suffered a heart attack 2 years ago; it left serious damage... 🙁

ugh

When I was dancing professionally I used to call my lifestyle the "Supermodel diet" we had no money and used to live exclusively on martinis, diet coke and cigarettes with the occasionaly pizza binge. I was tiny and looked really anorexic as I look at photos of myself now so I wouldn't recommend it (and because it's sooo bad for you). Why do we do these crazy things to stay/get slim?

I always say eat right most of the time, exercize and when you want ice cream or MacDonalds for god's sake go get it. No one ever got to the end of their life and said "thank god I never ate any food that was bad for me" (what a boring life!).
