Hi All! Is anyone else here from WNC? If so you know that Western NC [if not the whole NC] is going through a pretty bad drought.

Found out a while ago that our well might be drying up. My dad [I hadn't noticed] found a ring of dirt in our toilet, and that means it's got to be getting low, right?

I can't remember the last good rain we had. Or the last big storm for that matter.

The weather man says that he doesn’t see any rain coming.

Sorry about your well. Never had one so I can't offer any help. Been dry as a bone here too. October is supposed to be one of our wettest months with around 13" but we got less than 2" and only in widely scattered parts of the county.

I know the feeling. We have hardly saw a drop of rain since before Spring. I joked about moving to eastern NC. I think some of them are having flooding.

Georgia ain't doing much better rain wise. As far as your well, get a sample as close to the well itself as possible, and see if any sediment settles out (you may need a big jar/bucket). If properly constructed, you should really get no (or very little) sediment, even if it is running dry.

It seems that most places are ether in a drought, having floods or, I am hearing of a lot of fires. Had at least two close enough to the house to see the smoke, and one where we could see a plane circling it [on the edge of the circle]

I told my mom and dad that we need a good snow [more water in snow], but today got up to 80 degrees, so it's going to have to cool down a lot before it will snow.

We recently went through one of the worst droughts in Texas history since record keeping began, in the 1880s I think. Started late in 2009 and we didn't fully recover until mid to late 2014. In the summer of 2011 it seemed like the whole state was on fire. I hope you all get some rain soon.

That's my biggest fear. Well, that or that the house [or near-by] will get on fire and we wouldn't have the water to put it out, and, we live out of town [a good half-hour too an hour by car], so by the time the fire trucks got here it would be too late.

It helps if your city, town, or village has a reservoir and you have a direct water mane to that reservoir.

Both me and my GF refuse to buy a home that gets it's water from a well only. The financial risk is too great for us. 🙁
