Pokemon trainer May ponders the perils of spelunking, with a bit of prodding from Spinerak (via foot tickling). I've provided two versions of the picture: one done in standard colors; and another converted to monochromatic cool blue tones, appropriate to the subterranean theme.

The accompanying poem also features Spinerak (pronounced: Spin-er-rack) and may prove a bit of a problem. It's meant to be sung rather than recited. Remember the old Ralph Bakshi-directed Grantray-Lawrence "Spider-Man" cartoon series from the '60s? These words are intended to fit its theme music ("Spider-Man! Spider-Man! Does whatever a spider can!", etc.) If the tune isn't familiar to you (or if you've forgotten it after so long), you can check this site for a refresher:

http://www.spiderfan.org/shows/tv_60s/

Scroll down to "Audio Files" and click on "Series theme". It will play for you almost instantly. Please keep this tune in mind as you read (the poem's rather awkward without it):

“The Appalling Spinerak”
sung to the cartoon theme “The Amazing Spider-Man”

Spinerak! Spinerak! Spins his silk as the bodies stack.
Tangled bugs thrash and cry ‘cause they know they’ll be dry.
Web’s out! Juice is in Spinerak!

Spinerak! Sneak attack! Trap door opening from the back.
Ledyba walks in fear, dreading death from the rear.
About! Eyes open for the crack!

With a mighty thirst, he’ll arise from his lair.
If you see him first, you be wise! Don’t be there!

Spinerak’s heart is black. Any insect can be his snack.
Does he fear Heracross? In his snare, he’s the boss!
He’ll sin! Slurping the goo of Yanma!
Sucking it through a long straw!
Bloodthirsty Spinerak!

Very, very nice! Cute scenario, well set up, and I love the just-starting-to-laugh look on the 'lee!

Keep it up!

As always your color treatment is gorgeous but the composition here is especially nice as well. 😀

😀 Thank you all, very much!

Glad you liked May's expression, U.N.Owen! Foot tickling always encourages my best (that is to say, most evil) effort!

I appreciate that, Vlad! I'm becoming a bit more comfortable with the feel of these characters. The layouts are becoming more intuitive. This should pay off increasingly as I produce further pictures.

You're very kind, ness! Thank you! This one felt right from the very first. It was concieved as an entirety instead of as disparate parts, something I should have been doing all along. Hopefully, I can keep it up.

Very nice artwork and your poem is pretty good too, keep up the good work. Whoever comes up with all of the Pokeman characters must smoke some of the best Mexican pipe tobacco there is.

Wow! That was a major bump! Thanks for the renewed interest, K! Yeah, I probably should have thought better of the music. Reading poetry can be taxing enough, but singing it! :tounge: All the same, I appreciate the hoisted thumbs!

Thank you, rajee! Your input means a lot!

Thanks for saying so, John! I tend to get less comment on the poetry than the drawings (well, it is an art forum... I shouldn't be surprised!), so any approval of the verse is most welcome! Oh yes... I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the Pokemon creators needed a bit of "artificial" inspiration. There's about 500 of the little buggers now!

Singing is the way poetry should be uttered, I reckon.

That's the way I used to learn it by heart when I was younger and nicer.

LBH...the icon for the post title is chosen under the text box in the reply screen.
You can edit your post to be rid of it.
Or you could do what I do and just use the quick reply at the bottom of this page to reply to things. Much faster if you dont need to attach anything!

That's a nice story, K! As it happens, a good fiend's girlfriend likes to sing her poetry too, so the idea isn't unfamiliar.

Thanks ness! Your instructions are very clear, and I see how to fix the problem now! Tried once, but TTC is being rather uncooperative today (I'm having all sorts of trouble connecting to the site, moving from forum to forum or getting my posts to take. I notice from the comments of others that this isn't a problem specific to me, so I'm not feeling persecuted or anything, but it is vexing). If I don't correct this now, I will later. Thanks again for your help!

PS: Usually I do use the Quck Reply (it's just less muss and fuss), unless I want to employ a particular smilie. Anything that simplifies the process is a blessing!

PPS: Also, did you notice? More of your artwork has appeared on that Japanese website:

One of Vlad's, too! Don't wait too long to check it out. The first site seems already defunct.

Actually I used to sing italian medieval poetry... to tunes I got from fantasy games.
How pointless.

LBH Ive also been having loads of problems with TT being slow to respond. Sometimes VERY slow.

Pointless, K? I dunno... sounds like creative juxtaposing to me. Ever use this in your war-gaming? I can see where it might be applicable.

Thanks for commiserating, ness. I figured I wasn't alone in this, but learning that everyone is in pretty much the same boat is actually quite comforting (misery loves company... self-absorbed cretin that I am!)

I stopped playing table war-games a while ago.
Computer strategy games are much more appealing, but they don't really need me humming to the score.

Yaaaay! The Bug Hater gets Bug Tickled! Whooppiee!!!!.... Wait, does she hate bugs? Never mind. Great Pic, again... And sorry for being late, its just that I'm currently in Europe, and its hard to get online. When I go back to the US, I'll keep myself up to date. (Around the end of August) 😎

Thanks again, Hungarian! Actually, it's Pokemon trainer Misty who's the bug hater. Which would have made her the logical victim of Spinerak... I didn't think that one through too well. Hope you're enjoying your stay in Europe. Welcome home at the end of the month!

Hiya Feathers! Haven't seen you around the site for awhile; hope you've been keeping well! Thanks so much for bumping up this older Pokemon picture! Of the few Pokemon themes I did, this one's my personal favorite! Most glad you like it too! May is an outrageous cutie! Happy I was able to capture some of that!
