Weed is now officially legal in my state!

I now have a dream of opening up a weed bar and calling it The Hot Box.

And so is gay marriage!

Huzzah!

Unfortunately you can still be prosecuted if caught with weed by the feds. I'm gonna be honest though, I'm against full legalization of marijuana. Medical marijuana I'm ALL FOR but as a recreational drug I just don't see the point (after all, it can be sensory impairing and it's just as addictive as painkillers).

I don't deny that marijuana has far reaching medicinal benefits (after all, that's scientific fact). However, if you don't need to take it for a medical condition then you SHOULD NOT BE TAKING a sensory altering drug that you can get addicted too. I guess it will be up for the Supreme Courts to decide.

As for the issue of gay marriage...YES! THANK GOD! ANY NEWS ON NY STATE concerning that? HOPEFULLY MY MISTRESS AND I WILL BE ABLE TO FINALLY TIE THE KNOT! Ohhh...it would be a GLORIOUS WEDDING! :wub 😉

The way I see it, we're wasting millions of tax payer's dollars stopping potheads from getting high. I figure marijuana isn't any worse for you than cigarettes or alcohol. They are still going to be getting it regardless of whether or not it's legal, so why not make money off it? Make it legal and tax the shit out of it!

That argument actually only carries so much weight. Your right though about alcohol and cigarettes being just as bad for you as weed. The problem with legalizing grass isn't just allowing people to get high on it even though they don't need too. There's also the problem of the additional cost on government (which would have to end up taking care of the thousands or tens of thousands, or even HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of people who literally end up BURNING OUT from taking it too much for too long)!

Any taxes we may gain and any additional income we get from freeing prisoners/not prosecuting for doing marijuana may be QUICKLY OFFSET by the medical costs to the communities. Still, you do have a point. I am at least AGAINST trying/imprisoning people for possession of it. I believe they should instead be sent to mandatory rehab and once their clean their records would be cleared and they'd be allowed to get on with their lives. Sadly most states don't do it that way.

You cannot overdose using marijuana although particularly large doses can yield unpleasant effects. No death has been recorded from the use of marijuana by natural causes.

A lethal dose of marijuana is either about 1/3 your body weight or about 1,500 pounds which leads to lethal effects. You would actually die if you consumed 40,000 times as much marijuana as you needed to get stoned.

I'm not too worried about it.

I'm not saying you can OD on it. But using ALOT OF IT over a LONG PERIOD OF TIME can WRECK YOUR BODY as well as YOUR LIFE, just like alcohol, cigarettes, or any other narcotic.

Actually, by having done loads of research on the subject (needed to write a research paper on the stuff), I've actually found out that marijuana is far better than cigarettes. No I'm not a pothead. I have smoked, but a long while ago. But a single blunt actually only does one third the damage to your lungs that a cigarette does. And with that being said cigarettes are very addictive, so it keeps adding on, whereas marijuana is purely a psychological addiction. Yes, people can get addicted to it, but rather than their body being addicted to it like cigarettes, they develop a mental dependence on the substance. As for the sensory impairment, this is true for some people (not all), but the impairment wears off with the high. Don't mistake me for a pothead, I'm just stating it seems to be so much better than cigarettes that pay a much worse toll on your body. Also, it may not be as bad as cigarettes, but when you're high, your judgement is much worse than before (depth judgement and whatnot while driving). Remember kids, don't drive under the influence 😉

Yet alcohol and cigarettes are perfectly legal.

I'm not saying substance abuse is a good thing; I enjoy drinking alcohol, but I'm by no means an alcoholic. It's called moderation and being resposible. You're argument is more for making good life choices rather than whether or not a substance should be made available.

Good to know. Thank you for sharing!

I am positively sick with jealousy, sir! Congratulations on living in a much more progressive state than where I dwell.

Thanks! If you're ever in the neighborhood, drop on by and we'll share a bowl!🙂

People shouldn't be sent to mandatory rehab for weed, if you feel that way then it would be hypocritical not to think the same for alcohol which is much more of a toxic and deadly drug.

It comes down to being ridiculous that we've criminalized a shrub and ruin peoples lives who choose to use it. The drug war is not sustainable, most of the yearly drug enforcement budget is spent enforcing marijuana, one of the safest drugs out there. Its all so absurd.

It doesn't help matters that our anti-drug laws were brought about over racism. It all started because a bunch of dumb-asses from the south were complaining about African American doc workers turning into drugged-up raging hulk monsters when their employers regularly supplied them with heroin, reckoning it would help them work longer. Had our government at the time foreseen the massive ensuing black markets and its world wide impact on all of humanity, I don't think they would have made the same decisions.

No man, nor group of men on should be able to decide for whatever reason whether or not something that grows naturally on this earth is "legal or Illegal"

They have just as much claim to ilegalize waves... or tax sunshine.

And so is cigarettes and alcohol. Simply because something is not healthy for you doesn't necessarily mean you have avoid it at all costs. I mean look at fast food; it's not the healthiest for you, but sometimes it's like "Fuck it, I wanna baconator." I believe it is everyone's fundamental human right to take care of or neglect their body in anyway they see fit. If they wanna fuck it up with drugs, that's their problem.

For me, I believe marijuana is pretty harmless as far as drugs go. It's no where near as intoxicating as alcohol and there isn't any form of chemical dependency like you'd get with cigarettes or caffeine. I know it's not doing any favors for my lungs, but I like the way THC makes me feel. I did considerable and extensive research on the subject before trying it and that wasn't until I was 25 and in the safety of my sister and brother-in-laws's apartment. At first I didn't care for the smell of it, but after a while it didn't bother me so much. I've been pretty happy with it since then and I use it responsibly; no smoking within 4 hours before work, wait an hour per bowl you smoked before driving and I personally only use it socially.

All in all, I think it's just a matter of personal choice.

But at what cost, Smoten? AT WHAT COST?!? :38:

(Actually, just wanted to post funny picture. Carry on.)

In Pennsylvania......................

you can be charged with a DUI for having smoked marijuana before driving.

Although riding in a car after smoking weed can make it seem like a magical trip, I woudn't recommend it if you're the one actually driving ^^

Marijuana isn't the same type of intoxication as alcohol and is generally much safer than drunk driving, but you are correct, it will still get you a DUI. Although the use of marijuana has been the cause of some fatal accidents, the mortality rates are significantly lower than that of alcohol. The use of any drug that hinders your ability to drive can also land you a DUI, not just alcohol or marijuana. Personally, I'm more terrified of the thought of running into an individual who just dropped acid right before getting on the freeway than having to deal with a stoner driving slow.

As far as I'm concerned people who don't need it for medical reasons have no business taking it. Of course, I don't agree with putting people in jail over it though (I'm very much against the Rockefeller Laws). A simple $50.00 fine (with NOTHING on your permanent record) is enough for me.
