Whelp, I suppose ya'll would be fair enough people to ask, so here goes!

I've been out of school for a little bit now, and I seem to have fallen out of the exercise routine. When I was in school I was a varsity lineman and I had my coach as an almost year round personal trainer, but now that I'm flying solo I can't seem to find the motivation to get out and do stuff. I was on a low carb high protein diet, but that was when I was doing an hour of cardio and two of weights a day, I was wondering if anyone here had any tips or reccomendations for weight loss. I'm starting college in the fall, prospectively, and I'd like to be back to my athletic form by then.

(I'm about 300 pounds now, when I was in football I was about 250.)

Thanks!

In my experience, all you have to do is create a calorie deficit, your body will do the rest exercise or no.

there's a site called myfitnesspal.com that just asks you how much you weigh now and how much you'd like to weigh and then tells you how many calories a day you can have to meet that goal and when you'll get there.

I lost 60 pounds doing it and didn't exercise at all for half of the time.

Your mileage may very and everybody's different but that's what worked for me.

I blogged about this some, the gist of which was what Kev said... you need to figure out how many calories you burn in a day, and consume less than that. Boom, weight loss.

Good luck!

I'm a lazy ass, I used to do Martial Arts years ago.

I think booze is my weakness, if I cut that out and ran a bit, I could lose a couple of stone..

I find making a simple effort goes a long way too. I have a few tricks that have worked for me and along with eating healthier and running, they helped out a lot. For instance if I go to say Wal-Mart for example, I don't go looking for the closest spot. I choose one further away and take a few more steps lol. If I go out to eat with friends, I will not only choose something healthy, but ask them to put half of it in a carry home tray first and just bring me the other half. Most places will oblige and then I have lunch for the next day as well. Something that helped a lot was cutting out sodas entirely. I only drink water now and energy drinks on occasion. Also don't be so hard on yourself for slipping off the wagon once in awhile. We are all human. The trick is to forgive yourself and just keep going. Rewarding yourself for a good week is also helpful. Hope some of this helps 🙂

Thank you all a bunch! I'll check out that website and try some of those tricks! Here's to hoping I'll be able to sit up without a struggle sometime soon. 😀

Just saw this post.

In 2005, I was found to have high bp, and weighed 200 lbs, which for me was very heavy. My Dr put me on a strict low carb diet. No sugary drinks, etc. I went from 197 to 169 in 3 mos, and have basically kept it off.

I walk a lot, which I find helps keep the weight off.

My cousin is quite overweight, and had lost a lot of weight through much exercise at the gym,. as well as giving up snacks.

Hope you can succeed at the weight loss. Good Luck.

1. At least 20 minutes of Aerobics a day.
2. Avoid carbonated drinks, alcohol and food abuse.
3. Eat more fruits/veg
4. Eat slowly
5. If you can do it, cook your own meal.
6. And yes, calorie counting helps.

And lastly... moderation.

...Something that helped a lot was cutting out sodas entirely. ...

Amen to that! Sugar and especially corn syrup are your worst enemies! Wheat products are also in the rogues gallery.

As for exercise, using a bicycle daily instead of a car or bus for short to medium runs IMO beats a gym any day.

My experiences...the excercising is good, but it is not the most important. I know people who do sport quite often, but they are still bigger than they should be🙂
More important are your eating habits.
Try to eat regularly and with small amounts of food and to avoid fat foods as much as you can.
The best is if you buy your food only yourself...if some other person is buying food for you, he/she can make a little more difficult for you. In this case try to discuss it with this person.

I've started running, but do like what we brits call "stodge", bread, potatos, pasta..

I'm really glad people are still posting here! I should say that I live in middle of nowhere South Dakota. The thing is, there is no gym here. I'm 120 miles away from the nearest city that does, (The nearest city, period.) I recently moved here, and i'm on a rather hostile native american reservation. The grocery store is about 1/4th the size of a wall-mart parking lot and has about two aisles. Dieting here is next to impossible, I do not feel safe going on jogs or riding my bike, and I have no exercising equipment at my house.

This is a pretty important point I forgot to post... Oops!

Wow, that sucks.
Can you invest in any type of exercise equipment? I got a decent used treadmill off craigslist a year ago for under $100. That, some weights and exersize tapes, and you'll be fit in no time!

Eat less food, and food with a lower calorie count. If you eat fewer calories than you burn, you will lose weight even sitting around on your ass.

My blog has some links in it for figuring out how many calories you need in a day, and how many calories are in different foods.

It requires mental toughness, but it's not complicated.

Replacing starches with a protein or vegetables is a good place to start. Cutting out soda and sugary drinks alone can make a difference. More grilled and less fried foods. Prepare your own dressings and sauces. There are many low calorie condiments with a lot of flavor such as different vinegars so you won't feel deprived. Grilled chicken with balsamic is a staple for my weight loss. Its important to begin preparing your own meals for the whole week in advance.

Give up dairy. Take calcium supplements with some vitamin D to make up for it.

about 2 years ago I weighed close to 290 pounds. I was a beast. Then I got kinda sick and through some crazy situation ended up being terribly lactose intolerant. Killed any desire I had to touch the stuff again.

That is the ONLY thing I changed about my daily routine. A year later I weighed 210 pounds. I still ate the same amount of food (quite a bit of food). Still lived a relatively sedentary lifestyle. BUT my calorie intake was reduced so dramatically from the loss of dairy in my diet that I just shrunk. >_>

Tis my advice, anyhow.

What Chrisums said.

And I mighta said this before, but cutting out sugar and corn syrup will go a long way towards getting you to your target weight.
