Yesterday my son needed a throat culture. So I took him to the hospital and I noticed my drivers liscense was gone. I came home looked for it and couldn't find it. I called the liscense beaureu and they said i need a birth certificate and a social security card. I went down there and they refused it, for security reasons, because it didn't have a statistics stamp on i, I had to go to the main office in Cleveland to obtain oit. See I'm laid off and I can't collect unemployment without a liscense. So I left for Cleveland, with my son, and it's about 45 min. one way. Here's where it gets good, I park, walk to city hall and I am stopped by the police. I have to sign in first and show them a photo I.D. of me. I showed them the paperwork from the liscense beaureu ,and said I need this certificate to obtain a photo I.D., and they refused. I said you can frisk, search, esvcort, and wait with me,all I want is a birth certificate. The three cops refused and told me to give the money to a stranger and askif they would go in for me. The office is about 40feet away, so get this they made my son go by himself, I insisted they escort him. They did andI watched him on the monitor. He brought it to me and he was scared and I was PISSED. I asked them what was the difference if you escort him or me. Their response was SECURITY. Turns out that this cerificate has a seal that isn't a notary public but a octogon shaped one. So the bottom line was: $19.00 for the certificate, $3.00 to park for twenty min.,quarter tank of gas, $27.00 forduplicate liscense. Bottom line, DON'T LOSE YOUR LISCENSE! If you have any opinions or comments please share them with me. THANX,osco89 :wooha:

Wow, that really was ridiculous. I'm sorry to hear about it. Hopefully your son wasn't too skaken up by it and everything is fine now.

As for security, I'm all for more, but not when it would impede, to such a degree, the ability for one to conduct their lives in a progressive manner. I can understand why they did this to you, but that doesn't make it right.

The idea of what "security" is in this country seems to be changing ever so slightly. Recently the government has decided to allow passengers on flights to carry things, even on their person, that would have been banned before. Things that would have been considered weopons a terrorist could potentially use.

Because we have very efficient air marshalls, air security isn't as rough (though airport security is sometimes.) They are more concerned with a terrorist having a bomb on a plane than anything else, so they've given passengers a little leeway.

Because many things can be a weopon however, I'm not sure if this helped. A terrorist could still, God forbid, hold a plane hostage by grabbing the woman seated next to him and holding a knife or sharpened instrument to her throat. It's the air marshall's bluff that he/they won't shoot or attempt to. The real question is, will they potentially sacrifice that woman's life to save everyone else?

I think when you're talking about security for many people at a time, it's one thing. But in your case, as an individual, it seemed like alot of unnecessary red tape.

:wooha: Holy sh*t, this country is more f*cked up than I thought. 😛

I had issues like that when my green card expired......oh GOD, I was busy with that baby for 7 months! 😡 Worst of that was, that by the time I had it, I was 16 and 3 months, and guess what I needed the greencard for? MY PERMIT! XD Ha, yes, I started driving with my moma when I was old enough to drive alone....BULLSH*T! 😛

ANyway, I believe the thing with security is going waaaay wrong, like Vlad said. I say, the reason they keep on doing this kind of junk and use security as an excuse is so people feel like there is security EVERYWHERE, which SHOULD make them feel safer.....riiiiiiiight. 😛

Please don't get me wrong. I am not complaining about it. I just don't understand if you got three officers standing there, the dept. is only 40ft away, and I verbally said to search, frisk and escort me. If they would have told me they aren't allowed so be it. But to tell me they don't want to, just send your son. Basically they got me by the balls, so I had to comply. thanx for your response :grind_tee

Yeah, I can understand the frustration. Don't worry, no one is saying you are complaining. Though, you certainly would have every right to be angry about it.
