A judge acquitted Yvonne Lancaster of drunk-driving charges in October, even though she had been found passed out in her car in Warrington, England, with an empty vodka bottle at her feet, with a blood-alcohol reading four times the legal limit. Because she was barely conscious and had to be propped up at the station for her breath test, the police declined to read her her rights (because she appeared not to understand anything being said to her), and that failure, the judge said, invalidated the arrest. How about the woman who bought a cup of coffee from Mcdonalds and drove home with it balanced between her legs with the lid on, it burst open when she queezed it with her legs and got burnt, she sued Mcdonalds for millions and won. I spent about a year and a half in a chair, regrowing my achilles tendons....wasn't a very pleasant experience, but sure was educational in a lot of ways that only someone who has spent an extended time that way would know. The world gets smaller....

I was hit by a drunk driver a little over a year and a half ago. It was simply the most frightening experience of my life. I spent about 3 months in a chair and had extensive PT. I still get the limp when I get tired, but I'm on my feet. I can't imagine what it's been like for you, Guitman, but I can tell you this...I'm STILL bitter...so I can back you there. I think I was most pissed that he walked away without a scratch - right into the jail for a while, so that was a saving grace. At least the system worked there.

Small thing caused it....He was too drunk to navigate the turn and hit me in the process...simply by turning the steering wheel a little too far to the left and my world gets changed. Alcohol can kill or cause injury. No way around the facts. I don't have an ounce of sympathy for someone who commits suicide by driving drunk. And you can guess how I feel about the ones who survive.

last month here in florida, one of the most unbelieveable but true stories I have ever heard surfaced....

A teenage boy was drag racing in the brand new mustang that his mother had just bought him, when he accidentally ran into another car, driving much much slower. Both passengers in the car he hit were killed, and he was put in critical condition.

The woman driving the car he hit was his mother. Her and a family friend were out looking at Christmas lights. It was a completely random event, but boy is that kid going to have some guilt to live with if and when he wakes up, and a long time in jail to think about it!!

Now that, my friends, is irony.

I'm glad to hear the ass that hit you Jo was put in jail. My waste of human skin got off with a ticket for wreckless driving. Her passenger was an EMT who worked with the officer in charge that night. He said that it would be an infringement of her civil rights to give her a breathalizer test!!! What kind of crap is that?

Hell, the cop tried to blame the accident on me. She was driving down the wrong side of the road and hit me head on. The cop was trying to say that it was I who hit her so hard that it spun us around 180 degrees. I WAS ON A FREEKING MOTORCYCLE!!! If it wasn't for the fact that I was awake the whole time, he would have gotten away with it.

Sorry about the rant everybody. It's been 5 years, and it still gets to me sometimes.

I've lost a few good friends to drunken jerks like that. It never ceases to amaze me how the system fails to handle them. On the other hand, I've seen many people brought in for drunk driving who've already had their liscences revoked for past offenses. Can anyone say "handcuffs"...or "jail"? Maybe if they started charging every drunk driver with criminal intent to commit murder?

Hell's bells ringin', guitman69, I'm pissed, and I didn't even get injured. Lost too many friends to this, though, usually on the receivin' end. Last one ended a marriage that was JUST rebuilding, and killed one o' the best sax players I've ever known.

I *have* been hit while on foot, skateboard, bike, moped, motorcycle, driving a car, and as a passenger (repeatedly), but no one was drinkin', drunken, or provably affected. Suddenly, I'm thankful, and think you've a definite right to vent, brother.
