Great Thread! I have so much for which to be thankful!
First and foremost,
my wife of fifteen years. She is the most caring and big hearted person I've ever known. We enjoy what would seem to me a rare kind of thing in that my family totally loves her, and her family totally loves me. She's my sweetheart, my lover, and my best friend. I confide in her about my deepest joys, fears and sorrows. She is in a word, amazing.
My family. My brothers and sisters and I have become much closer since Mom and Dad passed. My nieces and nephews are almost all adults now with some approaching thirty. They are more like brothers and sisters to me now. My brother, Steve70 and I are only a year and a half apart in age. We spend hours on the phone reminiscing about our childhood and adolescence and all the adventures we had growing up.
My friends. Having stayed in the same area in which I grew up, I have some life-long friends that I’ve known since grade school. People for whom I would give the shirt off my back and would do the same for me. People who were there with me for all the good times and bad. I can’t thank God enough for them.
My pets. We are lovers of animals here at Chez 70. Here is the latest count.
Dogs – Shelby, Havasu, and Chelsea
Goats – Jack and Jolly
Sheep – Woolliam, Ramsey, Abigail, Sheila, Leila, Cece, Luna, Oreo, Mitzi, Lulu, Bill, Norma, Aida, Nina, Yeye (pronounced “Jay-Jay”), Tatita, and Sophie.
Quite a crowd, but each and every one of them are precious to us. They all have their distinct personalities, quirks, and behaviors. I feel sorry for people who make jokes about eating the sheep or having sex with them, because they'll likely never know what cool creatures they are.
My job. It’s not for everybody. It kicks my ass up one side and down the other. Sometimes I have to work through the night and into the next day. But I think it’s the best job in the world. I have a terrific boss and awesome co-workers. We are a real team. We help each other out, we share information, and there is no petty competition.
My house and property. In the DC area, unless you're a multi-millionaire (and believe me, we've got plenty) you have to drive for about an hour to get any affordable acreage. Somehow, I've ended up with 4.5 acres in Montgomery County, one of the most expensive counties in the country. I'm 15-20 minutes away from Costco, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Target, Safeway, etc.
I don't feel I deserve any of these things, yet I gladly receive them as gifts from God, for Whom my neart is overflowing with thanks and gratitude.
