My family always packs Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes, and on
Christmas Eve we have a really light and easy meal, go to church, and
when we come home we have a fire (so long as it's under 40*F out) and
watch Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and eat s'mores. On Christmas
Day we open gifts, hang out, and then my dad comes over in the evening
for Christmas dinner (my parents are divorced and have been for years).
It's really low-key but awesome. My weener dogs love to open presents -
their own as well as everybody else's. ;]

What are your Christmas traditions?

I serve cold shrimp with cocktail sauce and apéritifs Christmas Eve while we all sit and talk in the room lit only by the tree and nativity scene.

Every Christmas Eve I watch the classic British film Scrooge from 1951 starring Alastair Sim, and the clip of the Apollo 8 astronauts in lunar orbit on Christmas Eve 1968, reading from the Book of Genesis.

After all those years on the Chesapeake, naturally it's oysters. One bushel fresh and unwashed and right off some old deadrise. That goes around 5 to 6 quarts (shucking them is its own improbable zen).... and consumed both raw and in numerous preparations,.. my favorite being oyster pie.

It varies some... but for Christmas Eve, after I get off work, I go out to eat lunch with my mom. We make snacks and bake cookies and drink hot chocolate and watch It's a Wonderful Life. On Christmas Day, we fix a big brunch, open gifts, nap, and then go to my sister or my aunt's house for Christmas dinner.

Hang with family..eat to much..have a few drinks...watch crazy kids rip open gifts ..you know all that fun stuff

I have a few of them, really:

Early Christmas- Every year the squid and I get roped into spending Christmas break with relatives so we give each other our gifts 2 weeks early. This lets Squids enjoy her gifts from me before we have to leave to go out of town.

Early Christmas dinner with the pets. Our early Christmas comes complete with a non-traditional feast of various odds and ends. Along with our own plates, we make plates for the creatures and we all eat together. It was fun this year with Godzirra, Kharjo and Fuzz Ro Dah. Godzirra and Fuzzy (being kitten and puppy) made quite a mess of the affair. Godzirra hid most of her turkey leftovers in her bean bag, Fuzzy batted at the peas across the floor, and Kharjo lazily lapped at the gravy off of everything then slipped away for a long nap. Since this is likely Kharjo's last Christmas dinner we wanted to make it special.

Every year the day before we leave for out of town we go through the closets and donate everything we haven't used in the past 6 months to make room for the new crop of things we likely won't use but will receive at Christmas. Her grandmother seriously overbuys every year and it usually takes two trips to bring everything home.

Crazy Roadtrip Carolling- we make a video to send to my family of our altered Christmas carols on our way out of town. In years passed we have featured such hits as "O Brown Recluse" and "Away with you Stranger (I don't know your name)."

Roadtrip burrito and the resulting hotboxing. We always stop for a taco bell burrito on our way out just so we have an excuse to shout and roll the windows down at regular intervals.

Eat a lot. Avoid the drunks, Sit through the same old christmas tv specials and complain that we have to go to work in the morning.

Christmas eve me and my family either watch Midnight Mass on tv or go to church(one year we got tickets to St Patrick's Cathedral) something that if you haven't done, you should try its an experience like no other. Then we sleep, get up early to open gifts and later on we have Christmas dinner.

Aside from the tradition of being broke this time of year ( which is more of a year-round thing to be quite honest ) , it's off to Olive Garden on X-mas Eve for dinner w/Papa Soda & me sibs. Afterwards we'll exchange gifts & then sit down to watch a movie ... which , more often than not , is one of THE finest Christmas movies ever filmed : Die Hard. Then I'll go home & my procrastinatin' ass'll wrap gifts whilst A Christmas Story plays on in the background.

On Christmas Day , we meet at my sister's place to open presents. The time of day we do this is usually determined by whether one of us has to work that day or not & when. By the end of it all I'm so loaded up on my mom's delicious homemade fudge , I find it almost impossible to even ponder how I'll be spending over the next several days all the Subway gift cards I received.

Almost.

But you said you liked Subway?! C'mon man, you're hard to buy for... jeez. oh, great... just disregard the framed Jared Fogle autographed photo that UPS brings on Friday. fuckaduck.

... just disregard the framed Jared Fogle autographed photo that UPS brings on Friday.

I will do no such thing. I will love it & proudly hang it in its rightful place between my autographed photos of The Noid & the Taco Bell chihuahua.

Dude... I could not agree more! And... it's Christmas in the movie!!!! As it is in Die Hard 2!!!! How appropos!!!

Even though we're Jewish, my immediate family still does a gift exchange. Typically we then go to an afternoon movie and then have dinner at either a deli or a Chinese restaurant (this is pretty much the ritual for most of the Jewish population of Los Angeles actually).

We open gifts at Midnight Christmas Eve. This year I'll be chillin with my 10, 6, 3 and 1 year old nieces and nephews. I couldn't be more excited!

I have a rather large extended family. So I'll have Christmas Eve dinner somewhere with gift exchanges and then the same thing with other relatives on Christmas day.

24 hours of A Christmas Story marathon is about all I've got here.

Cthulhumas

I usually go out and buy a real tree. It then gets decorated with a variety or oddish ornaments that I've accumulated throughout the years. It then get's topped off by my Cthulhu tree topper. (I was hopping to add tentacles to it this year, but didn't have time to acquire any). After that's done, I start my marathon of Christmas themed horror movies and B movies. This years selections:

Gremlins
Die Hard
Black Christmas
Santa Clause Conquers the Martians
Santa Clause vs The Devil

This year, I decided to give my Cthulhumas a Japanese flavor in that I bought a Christmas cake and picked up some KFC
