What do I need to play rar files?

I have been trying without success to play some of the rar video files posted on TH. But they won't play. What kind of software or other knowledge do I need to play them?

You need to have win rar installed on your computer. Once you've got that, you can DOWNLOAD the .rar file and extract the information from it by Right clicking and selecting EXTRACT.

Then you'll have the video.

I'd suggest 7zip instead of WinRAR. It's not shitty crippleware that'll start bugging you for a registration after a few days, and it doesn't spew icons and shit everywhere.
