I'm sure this is The Wrong Forum for this post, but you're all nice people here (I mean it) Gotta rant somewhere.... (and as always, WTMI ALERT)

Do you collect anything? I collect action figures. What does your collection mean to you?

Over the past two days I've been helping a female friend as best I can- her home situation has become verbally abusive (abusive relatives, not hubby or BF she's single) Abuse, whether physical, mental, or verbal, is absolutely revolting- especially directed against a friend who I respect- a very intelligent mature woman. It's totally offensive....deeply offensive.

I came home tonight to my meager little place and looked at my Shogun Warriors collection (also known as Chogokin or Jumbo Machinders; not the only thing I collect)- mostly the smaller die-cast metal ones, nothing earth-shakingly valuable- and REALLY felt good about my life for the first time in ages!....Shogun Warriors are forerunners to Power Rangers and Voltron etc with cool names like Reideen (who transforms into a bird!), Great Mazinga/Mazinger, Dragun/Getter Dragon, Poseidon, Gaiking (who transforms into a Skull!), Daimos, Combattra, Dangard Ace, etc.... (Google them now!) Bright, colorful, fierce giant robots....and I was struck by the huge contrast of worlds....

I have peace and dignity at home if nowhere else; she doesn't have a safe refuge to go home to right now. I have this placid island of coolness- my toy Warriors stand tall and proud, it's like they come from a universe where there's no such thing as verbal abuse, something so vile can't exist there and shouldn't exist here. ANd I remembered how my collection was a refuge many years ago when I was going thru a prolonged disaster of my own....

I've felt like a failure at life so many times cause I haven't 'succeeded' financially- but not anymore! My home is a SAFE PLACE, and I am a decent person, and when I come home I don't have to worry about what some drug-addicted bully is gonna do next; this is worth more than any big house or boat or fancy status symbols!

That's what my home- and my action figure collection- mean to me....

I would recommend bringing this female friend into your sanctuary and possibly (if your interested in her and available) more into your life. She sounds like she could use the peace of mind and the warmth of a loyal friend.

My collection is rare, offbeat, unusual movies. I know EXACTLY what you mean, too, Slaver123. I'm never gonna be fabulously wealthy or anything, but I have my quiet little place, and it is my sanctuary from the madness out there. I'm quite content to have this place to come home to and just chill with strange films. Ain't much, but it could indeed be a whole lot worse.

I have two collections that are important to me.

I have 14 animation cels on my wall from my favorite childhood cartoon, The Super Friends. I get up every morning and see on my wall Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Robin, Aquaman, The Wonder Twins, Green Lantern, Flash, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Black Vulcan, Samurai, Apache Cheif & El Dorado.

I was not always happy as a kid, I was the target of bullies. Saturday mornings watching Super Friends was when I was relaxed and happy.

My other collection is stuff I have regarding my favorite movie, Brokeback Mountain.

After I saw Brokeback, I joined a forum similar to this one, and the members started doing "Brokie gatherings". Always being a homebody, since 2006 I've been to 15 states, as well as England, Italy, Canada, Australia & New Zealand. I met a great group of new friends, and even had two great relationships, which didn't last, but affected me in postive ways.

My Brokeback collection reminds me to be open to change, to not be afraid, and to accept others as you want to be accepted.

i collect lego, and as nerdy as that is, im comfortable with myself in the knowledge that im in a safe place were i can be a total nerd XD

OMG have you seen the Lego Super Star Destroyer? Wish I had the money and space to collect Lego... I would build that monstrosity then film it crashing and shattering to pieces. And just think- after it crashes you can re-build it again and again!

Course it costs $500.00...I'd settle for the red striped Star Destroyer from Episode 3, 'only' costs $120.00

I collect people, glass bottles, and books.
I don't know that that says anything about me, other than I retain just about everything I could perceive as conceivably interesting.
Even if they aren't necessarily interesting to other people. . . <_<

I have four collections...

Old computers, guitars, watches, and toys of the Enterprise from Star Trek. Yes... It's a geek attack.

I collect nutcrackers i don't know why i like them but i like them. Unfortunately i can only seem to find them during Christmas time so its a slow collecting process.:sleep1:
