What elicits your rage?

Oh man, there are a lot of things I hate.

-People who are being assholes to cashiers and other people in retail positions. I remember standing in line at a Kmart before, and this old dude was yelling at this poor cashier over some item not ringing up as a sale. The fact that it was basically just one dollar difference made him look like a total idiot when he was screaming at the top of his lungs.

-People who throw around big words randomly while using them in the completely wrong context, showing them to be completely stupid.

-The very existence of the Creationist Museum.

-I hate when I exclaim my hatred for a band and a fan of that band brings up "well they donate some money to the salvation army, you're an asshole if you don't like them!"

Actually no, no I am not. I can hate a band's music and even think their fans are stupid, yet still respect the fact that they donate to some charities. A band donating has no bearing on whether or not I think their music is any good. Just the same as you can like a musician's music they produce, but think the musician themselves are an asshole. Arguing from emotional appeal is a fallacy ridden debate tactic.

Ah, they typical troll response. I'd say it had more to do with the 2+ decades of martial arts and combat training. You know, instinct and practiced ingrained responses and whatnot.

You know, REAL martial artists have a peace and serenity about them, and they have a lot of self control. They wouldn't dream of using their arts to satisfy a bloodlust. Nor would they go bragging about what a badass they were, taking down some dude that pissed them off.

Which brings us to my own personal pet peaves:, the egomania inherent in Internet forums, and the glorification of resolution by violence.

I think you may have misunderstood the context of the original post. The OP works in a security position, and he was expressing concern that he didn't know at what level to stop the "escalation of force" when trying to stop an aggressor. It's not always an easy decision to make in the heat of the moment when dealing with unruly people. Sometimes, feelings of anger can seep in--adrenaline does that. Though the OP was very detailed and technical in expressing how he disabled the aggressor, I don't think it was intended for bragging. He's merely trying to analyze his handling of the situation and thinking about what sparks his rage. I'm thankful that in my line of work, I'm limited as far as options. If my life is threatened, or the life of another, I have a firearm. No pepper spray, batons, tazers, or any of that. I have a firearm that I am trained to use responsibly if--God forbid--I ever needed to use it. You're more likely to get in trouble with non lethal defense methods than firearms.

Ah yes, the false belief that every single person who has ever practiced any martial art has the same zen/peace/non violent aura as the shaolin monks. Of course, martial arts = nonviolent pacifist philosophy (I do hope you caught the sarcasm)! I'm not quite sure where you get that idea from, but I'm going to assume it's from the movies. Here's a helpful tip: Pop culture doesn't always go hand in hand with reality.

I don't go looking for trouble, but I'm not a 'turn the other cheek' kind of guy. I was physically attacked, I reacted, I used the least amount of force necessary to do temporary damage. I wasn't looking to prove I was a bad ass by completely wailing on some drunk/high asshole, or attempting to satisfy some 'bloodlust'. I'm certainly not thumping my chest proclaiming arrogant pride over my 'conquest'. Being attacked is a hot button for me. In fact, it's safe to say that most people wouldn't take to kindly to being assaulted.

Your ignorant mini-rants would be justified if I had titled this thread "Diary of a Texas Badass".

We can name more than one? Ok... ignorance spewing, self-important, misogynstic individuals.

For me, especially today, it's being attacked by some belligerent, and drunk/high, jackass for being the one guy to tell him he was blocking a door when people are trying to leave Chicken Express. Of course, I acted as any responsible individual, and bruised my elbow with his jaw. After a nice 3 minute wait for Arlington's finest, and a half hour chat with said individuals, it was off the to the cooler for the inebriated fellow, and off to a comfy chair in my apartment for me.

I'm sure that's a normal reaction, but there is a tad bit more to how it is that he stayed down. I followed that elbow up with a classic arm lock, knee strike to the ribs, and a lift-and-drop take-down. I'm holding his arm and leaning on his back, and the red starts pouring over my vision. Out of nowhere, I'm more than just a little flustered. I'm genuinely in a full blown rage, and my mind is going over all the different bones I could break from that position. I know that sounds weird, and a bit insane, but it's an unfortunate side effect of the life I've lived. Now, some of you know a little bit about me, so you're more than aware of my, shall we call it, interesting employment history, which will hopefully explain my state of mind.

I don't like stupidity. I don't like ignorance...

The Arlington Police should have taken both of you away, or maybe just you for excessive violence.
If he wasn't "drunk or stoned" as you claim, it would have definitely been you.

Bragging on a Tickling Forum about how tough you are, and how you *supposedly* [ahem] Kung-Foo'ed some drunk's ass at a cheap chicken joint doesn't speak highly of your character.

There were a hundred non-violent ways you could have resolved this situation, but you chose to "see RED" and go off on a relatively defenseless target. Nice work, tough guy!

I can't believe you are seeking, and getting ... praise for simple assault.

There is no valor in beating up a drunk.
You should address your RAGE before it gets you in serious trouble, bro.

Fortunately for me, people witnessing my reaction to being assaulted were on hand, instead of 'holier than thou' smug individuals who completely overlooked the fact that the individual swung on me first. Reading comprehension is key, my friend. Maybe try it in the future.

Again, since you missed the point (and you're not the first one), I'm not bragging about having "kung-foo'ed" some drunken idiot. I subdued a man causing a public disturbance and assaulting a peace officer. It was a fairly standard, semi-fluid move. I didn't spear the guy and go all UFC ground-and-pound. He's fine, as I went for 'subdue' instead of 'injure'. As to your 'hundred non-violent ways', I'll stop you right there, chief. I don't truck with getting attacked. Ever. For any reason. You can talk mad shit and cuss me out and I'll just smile quietly to myself. You touch, I touch back. Period. That's not being tough, that's a part of who I am. I came up that way, I've trained that way, so I am that way. I don't see too many people keeping their cool when someone throws a hay-maker at their face, unless getting punched in the face is your thing, in which case, more power to you.

I'm not seeking praise. There are very few instances where violence should be praised, and this definitely wasn't one of them. This was merely me giving a real-life example of something that happened with a situation that angers me to the point of rage, and posing a query to the forum as to what drives them over the edge. Maybe when you come down from that high horse of yours, you'll fully read the post, fully comprehend the words that were typed, and possibly contribute to the thread in a positive way.

going to a family gathering and my wife and I are virtually ignored ( by my extended family ) but when we don't go my sister will let me know that everyone says hello and since that time 5 years ago I absolutely refuse to talk to any of them. In the words of Lieutenant Harris ( Police Academy movies ) To bad so sad bye bye

Toast. Floor. Butter-side-down.

But only for a moment. Otherwise, nothing enrages me. I have other uses for my time and energy.

People who think they don't have to work for anything, because they think they are just entitled to it.

I can't stand when people lie to me. I feel insulted, like the person must think I'm stupid enough to believe them and/or not ever figure out that they're lying. I have zero tolerance for it.

there is one thing that makes me angrier, but i really dont want to stir up a controversy....child abuse, molestation and murder. when things like that happen i TRULY wish that this country would go back to the old west days of public execution on the gallows. put a rope around their neck. or firing squad, whichever you prefer, execution is execution after all....but there needs to be SERIOUS consequences for that sort of thing, and i dont mean life in prison at the expense of the tax payers. but speaking as a person who had a relative molested, let me say that my ideal situation would be for this country to take an example from the romans and go back to the days of the roman colloseums....send the child molesters, the child killers to the lions and tigers and bears....and then put it on pay per view and put the money into the education system....some freaks get eaten....children recieve a better education and the animals get fed...everybody wins!
