What is your "Mount Everest"? (Please read!)

Hello:

As we all know, there are many challenges and obstacles in life that one must overcome and/or conquer at some point. For me, there are two major things in my life that I wish to achieve:

1) The heart of a woman I met last winter, whom I've had a crush on ever since. She's from Líma, Peru, she comes here to work every winter, and she's one of the most beautiful women in the world that I've ever laid my eyes on.

2) The snowboard terrain park at my local ski area. I keep saying this to myself every season whenever I try it on my snowboard. Today I decided that this year I plan to make it one of my biggest missions in life (okay ... maybe not in LIFE ... but this winter) to be able to simply jump and also do the halfpipe perfectly without any problems. Both sides of the halfpipe with no trouble, just like every other person I see doing it everyday when I'm there.

How about you? What's your "Mount Everest"(s) in your life? What are some of the goals that you want to achieve that for you, it takes a lot of guts? Something really challenging...something you've either already tried before, or NEVER tried before, that you really want to succeed at doing once and for all?

(FYI: Please don't mention any goals/challenges/etc that are tickling related. We KNOW already. lol)

Asking a woman out on a date. 😛

Very thought provoking, RD. I waited to respond until I was really sure I had something. There are actually two things...

1) Starting a successful home business. That's in the works and will take plenty of time to accomplish. But, working at home is something I've always wanted to do and am finally working on.

2) I've had the workings of a murder mystery in the back of my head for a long time and have never had the nerve to sit down and let those creative juices flow...at least not for that particular writing. I'd like to one day do that and get it published.

good question

I've done almost everything I've ever wanted to accomplish...except one thing. I can honestly say I have lived to my potential, but I was looked upon once to aspire to a place I couldn't imagine.
There's one person who believed in me enough that I could some day help to bring a cure to cancer...and though impossible that's my goal.
Be it in R&D or as an Oncologist I have one goal in mind: to give of myself so that no one has to leave a young child in this world alone to that disease. It's the worst thing I've ever seen and the only thing worthwhile to try for. Even if I can be one part of making those few people's lives longer it's worth it.

I'm not sure. I'm gonna have to put a lot of thought into this one before answering. Incredibly thought-provoking thread, though.

this is cool so far

Thanks for all the replies thus far, everyone.

Let's keep it all going with some more replies to this thread! 🙂

Well, my dream is to be a succesful stand-up comedian. I have never had the nerve or the drive before to get up on stage and try it, but I have recently begun to take the steps necesarry to do it. Next arch, I'm going for it. Hopefully I won't bomb...

You can always practice with us here in CT, John! 😉

I was thinking, and a really difficult goal I'd like to one day accomplish is to make it into the Marine Corps Band. My current job is eventually going to disappear from the Marine Corps, and I'll probably only be able to reenlist once before I have to change what it is that I do. I'm not sure if I want to start completely over from scratch in a new field, especially as an NCO, which is expected to have expertise knowledge in whatever field you work in. I've always loved performing, and I used to be at a point where I knew I could've made it with a little hard work. Now, my skills have been diminishing from lack of practice. Sooner or later, perhaps after I come back from ship, I think I'd like to set aside some money for private lessons.

Which instrument do you play?

My wife and I both play the clarinet. You want to talk about a geeky "band camp" story, my wife was my section leader. 😀 I was pretty good, but she can smoke me on the clarinet.
