what should my User name be on msn messenger?

I just found out that XP pro comes already installed with Msn messenger so i thought that was pretty cool. Dont know if its the latest Msn messneger 6.1 or not but. anyways Got any suggestions on a user name for it?

[email protected] or @msn would work. Being a person with 100's of contacts it's nice to have a name that fits the name in the place you're giving it out. I say the e-mail addresses because you need one to use MSN messenger but you can change the display name. 🙂

Hi, BBR -- actually XP has the Windows Messenger variant, and the latest is 4.7, which is Microsoft's way of confusing us all on purpose 🙂 It's almost identical to MSN Messenger except the version numbers are all different. (You may need to check Windows Update for the latest version, btw, because the older ones no longer work.)

If i go to the main msn messenger website which is http://messenger.msn.com and Download the latest messenger for XP Pro which is 6.1 What do i do with msn messenger 4.7 after i have installed the latest 6.1 msn messenger for XP Pro? do i uninstall the 4.7 one?

In 4.7 there should be an option in one of the menus to update...

I went to add and remove Programs but msn messenger didn't show up as a Program that i could remove. so i guess im stuck with msn messenger 4.7 :sad: for XP Pro

Nevermind I fixed the problem and Got rid of Windows messenger 4.7 i just looked it up online at bigblueball.com its an Instant messenger website. and so i just searched for 4.7 on there search engine and found what i was looking for! So now im gonna install the lastest messenger which is 6.1

That awful thing is also called Windows Messenger, which is another Microsoft confusion, but yes, that Messenger is a little monster and I disabled mine a long time ago 🙂 http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/using/howto/communicate/stopspam.asp

email address the @hotmail.com or @msn.com thats what i mean for Messenger. but i already got it taken care of now!

I have ?'s and concerns about IM myself. Apparently, I'm able to use my Yahoo e-mail addr for MSN Messenger, where my 'nick', screenname, whatever is 'RottiesROOL', but when I tried to put it in my profile here, I got an error message saying it wasn't a valid (address?). I'm new to all this really, only having had a computer for less than a year, and pretty much learning things by trial and error, and asking questions. I just recently installed the Yahoo messenger, but really all this has got me beating my head against the wall, and is frustrating as well, because I want to know how to use it. I'm not a book guy anymore (that adult ADD ya know...lol), so any help you peeps can offer, I luv ya for it!! I think my e-mail is activated here, so if you wanna.....
