wot the hell is a MS_Windows_LSASS_RPC_DS_Request attack? I've been getting those damn things all day from my firewall (security alerts).

Here is the answer: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/security/Content/10108.html

Make sure that you have the latest Microsoft patch (KB835732), and fully updated antivirus software running at all times. This is a serious exploit and can cause major problems if you become infected.

Best of luck,

I must already have that patch installed. When I went to Windows Update all that the scan showed was an an update for WMP9. Funny thing is, I re-installed Spybot S&D earlier today, and have not had an alert since.

Thanks Val...btw, have you any experience with Panda or CA Associates Security bundles (Anti-Virus and Firewall)? I've been told they are both better than Norton, and have downloaded the trial versions, but have not installed then yet, as I don't know if they would conflict with Norton.

Mistress, I know you're a 'ler, but just how ticklish are you? Is that why you're a 'ler? LOL

Hi, Storm -- CA is one of the best and least-expensive brands, and would definitely be a good choice. Norton, on the other hand, totally sucks, and caused me endless problems.

As a rule, you can install CA if you disable all of Norton's real-time protection features, and then later uninstall Norton after you've made a final decision. It is best, however, to uninstall Norton first.

Using the Add/Remove Programs panel is the best way to remove Norton; remember that Live Update needs to be uninstalled separately. If Norton doesn't uninstall cleanly, the company's website offers manual removal tools, but fortunately I never needed them.

Best of luck,

What about Panda? (somehow that name appeals to me more so :happy🙂

Norton Anti-Virus is really getting worse. Right now, the best software firewall on the market is panda platinum.

Take this from an IT professional like me..

I'm still getting those alerts...!! I wish they would stop...it's really getting annoying...!!

Assuming you have all the critical updates from Windows Update installed, the attack can't succeed. It's probably your firewall telling you it's blocked an attempted connection, which is good! Perhaps you can tell it not to bother telling you. If it's something like the free version of ZoneAlarm, it's probably just trying to make a point of how useful it's being so you'll buy the full version.
