Over the past 4-5 years i've accumulated TONS of old drawings of mine - i have really old ones stored hidden away - and more recent stuff is bluging out of a folder..........

My Q. is for anyone but mainly fellow artists - what the hell do i do with this bibles worth of my tickle art?

For obvious reasons i keep it hidden - i don't want a friend to come round (or a new g/f) and stumble across any of it.
But then i guess another Q. would be if i dispose of it........ where and how?

I thought about bunging it all in the paper recyle bank - or just down the rubbish shoot in my flats.
(But the 2nd option could backfire if it was to fly out of the bins and scatter across the carpark below - ha ha)

I'd love to hear people's opinions on this cause it's something i plan to do/not do if the case may be.

Many Thanks

hmm i still keep em in a folder well hidden between my schoolpapers , looks like a normal file dough filled with materials

as for the recent pc works i just keep em on my drive well tucked away between loads of other files wich i only know the combination on getting 😛

so for paper works i think am just gonna rip it appart one day in pieces and just throw it between the rest of the trash , dough we recycle so thats gotta go with the paper bin and i don't know if at the center they look at stuff whats on it. Meaby better burn it , as for digital work am thinking i put that on an external drive or stick meaby.

I think you should keep them, put them in a special fire proof safe or portfolio and save them for your self and your children to see.Or you could sell them(your choice)do what you want with them they are yours. However, usually a artist cannot separate themselves from their drawings it is like a part of their soul and they can't part from them.It would just devastate them and tear them and their soul apart!

Well, my simple solution was to put them in my filing cabinet with the rest of my artwork and not give a shit if anyone finds them. So far, it's worked pretty damn well.

I say keep it. That is your history. If you destroy it, its gone. It's not coming back. I made that mistake with one of my old photo albums. Destroyed it for an ex-girlfriend. Well she's gone and the albums gone. That leaves me wanting to go back in time and punch myself in the face. If you don't want anyone to find go hide it somewhere. Get a strongbox like QBBM suggested. Don't throw it out because you may live to regret it.

I would scan them and store the digital copies somewhere safe, like in an encrypted folder on a CD-R, and keep the originals in a lockable storage box or a bank safe-deposit box.

And if you do encrypt them, be sure to keep several copies of the key in safe places, because if you lose the key, the data is lost too.

Never throw out master recordings/negatives/files/drawings. Make digital copies as you are able and file the originals in a safe place (safe from loss, damage, insects, mold/mildew, etc.) I never delete any of my digital photos, even ones I'm not crazy about, because you never know. I have film negatives which at the time I thought weren't that great. I go back to them a few years later and wonder what I found wrong with them.

These guys sell archiving supplies. They're a bit pricey, but they're also a good reference.
