What's in a name?

Do you think your name 'fits' you? Would you change it to something else? For a long time I didn't like my first name, but one day it hit me: It was not the name but the man who carried it I didn't like. Once I went to work on that, things changed for the better. You don't have to post your real name to chime in here of course.

I like my given name. I never met the great-grandfather after whom I was named since he died in 1929 and I was born in 1950.

I didn't like my name for the longest time. It was always getting butchered in school and I was made fun of here and there for having a weird name. I wanted to be a Jessica so bad.

But I grew out of that mindset and now, as uncommon as my name might be, I couldn't think of anything that would fit me better.

I never liked my name (Which by the way really is Mitchell). As Mairead mentioned used to happen with her, I would get teased in school unmercifully, most often being referred to as "Mitch the Bitch"

I always liked my middle name, Ross,. better, and wanted to change my name from Mitch to Ross, but just never got around to it. At this stage of my life, after 43 years, I figure I'll just keep Mitch.

I like my first name, despite the fact that 'Philip' apparently means 'lover of horses'! For some reason, everybody seems to spell my name with two L's, which is slightly irritating.....

I like my name, because my parents chose it together, after that song by Looking Glass. Though my Dad had a few other names he would have liked to name me, such as "Acadia", and I really like that name.

I enjoy my name. I've been told it's a strong name but I don't identify with my name ethnically or culturally due to the way I was raised. My name is James Anthony Lawrence Church.
