The waves of atlantis is a book that ive read a while back and hated it, and ive always recognized it as one of the worst books i have ever read. You dont have to watch the video but the guy explains some of the many things that make it the worst. I would place the novel of "the old man and the sea" a close second, not because it was poorly written but it was just extremely boring.

What are the worst novels, books, ect, that you have ever read? Why did you find them bad?

I don't know if I'd call them the worst ever, but I could name a couple of novels I didn't like.

False Witness by Dorothy Uhnak - The only novel I've ever read that didn't have a single sympathetic character.

Drood by Dan Simmons - Got bored with this one about a third of the way through, and I usually like Simmons' books.

Well yeah i meant worst as in a personal view point, because something being the worst is totally subjective. And I completely forgot about False Witness, that book was pretty bad, especially the characters (as you have already stated).

For the life of me i can't recall the name of this piece of drek. The premise was Jack The Ripper had found his way to San Francisco and was living there as a minister.A very young William Randolph Hearst was attempting to expose his real identity.

The narrative was disjointed and there did not seem to be a paragraph longer then four sentences.Absolutely unreadable.Suitable for a doorstop or leveling a piece of furniture but not much else.I slogged through four chapters before returning this complete waste of good paper to the library.

Id have to agree, i didnt like that book.

Ever see the movie? It was one of the most annoying films i have seen.

I couldnt read the book, it was completely boring and naturally i received my first academic F due to the book

haha nice video, that sums it up.

You would have gotten an f too, but i basically cheated and went to spark notes. They just summarize everything up for ya 😀

De Avonden, by Gerard Reve. Lots of people consider him one of the greatest authors my country has had but I really disagree. It's so incredibly boring that I cannot even express how boring it is.

Anything written by Ken Follett.Collections of cliched characters that even i could come up with, paired with unintresting plots.:zzzzz:

Yeah id have to agree. Everything about his work is boring and you can see everything coming.

I always hated Shoeless Joe. There were similes within similes.... WITHIN SIMILES. And they all sucked, usually. God, it was such a crappy book.

I hated a book called Kendermore. It was part of a series in Dragon Lance called Preludes. Kendermore is suposed to tell the story of what happened to Taselhoff Burfoot we he and his friends parted way for 5 years prior to the Chronicles trilogy. Anyway Kendermore is the place where Taselhoff (who is a Kender) comes from. Now I like Kenders, they are great when with a group of other characters. However a book filled with almost nothing but Kenders... not a great idea.

Texas,by James Michener. If you have never heard of it,consider yourself lucky. One wonders how the same man who wrote Tales of the South Pacific,The Drifters and some other excellent work spawned this..disaster.

I can only conclude he felt that he had one last book in him,and that he was very very wrong.Kind of sad really.

i HATED The Grapes of Wrath... i know.. kill me ;P I've never been a fan of Steinbeck's to begin with and having to read such a long, drawn out, nearly plotless story made me wish i could put my face in a meat grinder instead of doing a report of this book.
Catcher in the Rye was one of the most awesome books until the end.. or rather.. the lack of an end... the ending was stupid and made me want to throw things.

I'd say the same thing about Dan Brown. But then I have only read the DaVinci Code (and that begrudgingly). However, I happen to like Eye of the Needle...

As for my vote for worst novel: Wicked by Gregory MacGuire. The writing was a weird mixture of archaic words, invented jargon, and a sense of humor that even I found twisted beyond comprehension. I find it so hard to fathom how they made a musical out of it.

I must admit i have never read the book but the movie starring Henry Fonda is a classic. From what i have read the movie script had to be cleaned up quite a bit, removing the references of incest between Tom Joad and his sister among other things.

However, I happen to like Eye of the Needle...

That book was the final straw for me when it came to Follett.I threw up my hands in despair long before i reached the last page.

Well, since I'm not a history buff, maybe that's one of the reasons his war stories can entertain me - I can't separate fact from fiction 😉

Flat out, I hated "The Great Gatsby."

Other bad books:

"Quite a Year for Plums"- it was about chickens for goodness gracious sakes

"Around the World in 80 Days"- it was totally boring

"The Dark Tower Series" I read most of it, but it got really repetitive and boring

I'm sure I could think of others but there is a start.

I've read some pretty ass books in my life. The one that stands out in my mind:

Moll Flanders by Daniel Dafoe

Snail Shell

A Handmaid's Tale. Yes Margaret Atwood, everything with a penis is evil, do you have to bring it up every single page?

I loathe Grapes of Wrath and The Old Man and the Sea. What's funny is I generally like both Steinbeck and Hemingway. Go figure.
