has there ever been a study done to determine if ladies or men are the most ticklish?

Depends on the position... Heehee 😀

I'm probably going to get a lot of heat for this, but I think it's us guys. Oh sure, all of us (Well most of us) try to do the rough and tough macho comando type thing, but I seem to recall a study being done on such a subject, and men were found, in general, to be more ticklish than women. Perhaps this accounts for the lers being predominatly male. I think that people tend to think that women are more ticklish, because most of them don't do the rough, tough thing. Oh, some are "stubborn* (Winking at you-know-who), but I think that the ladies tend to be freer with their laugter than the guys. Naturally, I acknowledge those who just aren't ticklish, men and women, but I'm talking generalizations here. Also, kind of nice not being an echo this time!

I must respectfully disagree. I've observed a lot of inter-gender tickling over the years, and the ladies seem much more ticklish - not that I'm complaining. Maybe it's because the tickling I've seen is usually the m/f variety. Of course, there are ticklish guys who are exceptions to the rule, such as yours truly.

who's more ticklish?

way back in the stone age (to most here)in the early 1970's, there was a game show called hollywood squares. this was a question on that show, seems there was a study done, and that women were far and away the more ticklish sex. the star that was picked, got the answer wrong btw.
yes many of us men are highly ticklish, and many women can turn it off, something us ticklish guys find almost impossible to do. but the vast majority of women are ticklish, and the majority of men are not.

I think women are generally more ticklish, not due to anything in the genetic makeup of the double-X chromosome vs. the XY, but more for psychological reasons. Guys are still subconsciously conditioned by society to be "tougher," and probably block out their ticklishness when they're younger to eliminate a perceived weakness; whereas women are generally more "allowed" to be sensitive to that sort of touch. Just one of the lingering double standards.

Women of course

Us males are the dominant race, and it's more natural for females to be tickling methinks.

Dominant race? Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought that our female counterparts were humans as well. Though I have known a few angels in my time.

As for the question, personally, I've never lost a tickle fight to a young lady.

lol, males are the dominant RACE? I wouldn't mind that, but females indeed are the most valuable, beautiful, and sincere SEX (GENDER) among the two sides. If I had one wish, it would be to see how this world would function if it were to be run by ladies, what a more serene and lush place this world would be 😉

dominant race

they will find or have found the tickle gene
in y-chromosome, which can stop male dominance

I agree with tklr on this one. I think he's made a good point, that I myself had not really considered. I also feel a womans (generally) more delicate, softer skin makes us more susceptible to light tickling touches. But there are exceptions to every rule (or generalization).. 😀

about ten yars ago, my girlfriend shoved a magazine article in my face and pronounced, "this is why you can tickle me through leather [jackets]." It was the reporting of the results of a study done which came to the conclusion that female skin was much more sensitive to touch than that of a male. how legitimate it was, I don't know. but I *could* tickle her no matter how thick her clothing was.

it was a good thing.

Most Ticklish

Studies on this seem to be all over the place. I read of one a number of years ago that said there were equal percentages of ticklish people in both genders.

Since I believe that tickling was invented to make it more inviting for folks to get to know folks...pretty well, I can't get over the feeling that there are always at least enough ticklish people in the one camp to form a team with the ticklers in the other so we don't have a bunch of frustrated ticklers running around.

well, liked someone said, guys are generally seen as the "tougher" ones, and females the "weaker" ones, for lack of better words. so if a girl is laughing her brains out because she is getting tickled, no one really thinks much of it. but if a guy reacts even remotely in the same way, it's a lot more noticed, just because of the contrast of the original "image."

Most ticklish?

Oh, and one more thing. It might be a good idea to conduct a study on whether it's the boys or the girls that more DESERVE to be tickled. That would prove what we already know, that if anyone DESERVES to be tickled, it's the lasses.

Seriously, who is it that paints ceilings in the home? Then when the painter just about has HIS arms used up from wielding brushes and rollers, who is it that walks in wearing short white shorts and a pink halter top and says, "You missed a spot over here."(hmmm???)

Who is it that sits on the passenger side of cars and asks questions like, "Why did you go this way if you knew you were going to get lost?" (hmmm???)

Who takes minor flaws and tosses them in you path..."You know, a little gray hair makes you look distinguished...or is it extinguished...I can never keep those words straight." (hmmm???}

Finally, there are assigned tasks in any good marriage. Mine is to make the rules and hers is to follow them. For instance, I made a rule even before we were ever married. There are to be no, nada, none, zip, flannel night clothes in this house. Then, with the first dusting of winter snow, year after year, I climb into bed, reach under the blankets for my usual female exploratory. What do I find? You guessed it. Flannel! And pajamas no less!!! Do you know evil? You are expecting the delight of fingers on female and you get fingers on flannel! Worse yet! The wench giggles at you! This is going to be a tickled woman, and right now! She deserves it and she knows it!

I don't think there is any doubt, it's the women that deserve to be tickled, regardless of which sex boasts the most ticklish people.

I would definitly have to agree the women are generally more ticklish then men. It probably has to do with how men and women use different parts of their brains when thinking. The part of the brain that makes people ticklish can be used for other things such as showing emotion. Since women are genrally more emotional then men they tend to be more ticklish as well.

p.s. how did your date go?

I don't think either sex is more ticklish, but I guess that would be due to my experiences. I think it depends on each individual person. I'm a female and I'm about average in ticklishness. I'm also very pale, and short. My ex b/f would tickle my feet and it tickled, but it wasn't so bad that I couldn't handle it, or had to struggle to get away. Now with him it was a totally different story, and he was tall with large feet...if I even touched his feet with my toes he would jump and laugh hysterically. All I would have to do was breath on his neck and he would beg me to stop. I wish I would have been able to admit how bad I wanted to tie him up and tickle him...man, that would have been heaven. He had to be the most ticklish male, or person I ever knew. He was extremely cute too, and I took advantage of his sensitivity every chance I got...just wish I could have done waaaaaaay more. Anyway, just my two cents.

I've been interested in this topic for some time since I am a very ticklish guy and my wife is simply not ticklish. Furthermore our only child is a boy and he is quite ticklish. I think I may have seen the same study as DoubleT which found that us guys were more ticklish than women but much less likely to admit it. I believe it was a study at a British university a year or two ago. If the evolution theory is right that ticklishness served the purpose of warning us of impending danger, it would make sense that men would be more ticklish as they were the hunters and defenders. I also agree with doubleT that guys try much harder to not to laugh, whereas women react more freely and maybe even dramatically. The facts that guys tend to deny their ticklishness and that guys try harder to tough it out probably make it harder to answer this queston fairly. 🙂

yes guys try to tough it out

and you'll find some guys who are incredibly ticklish, and some women who are not ticklish at all. it's true that women let their reactions out, while men try to keep the laughter in.
all that being true, i'll still stick with the study i heard about many moons ago, on the game show. it's something like 90some% of women are ticklish, and less that 50% of men are ticklish.

A couple of ideas have occurred to me, the less appealing image being the idea to wonder whether it might be something like suicide (among teenagers, vastly more girls attempt, while vastly more boys succeed). I could see a sort of parallel, maybe women being more generally ticklish but men more likely to reach a particular degree of intensity of ticklishness, being possible (though can't make any rational guess as to probability), and of course there's always the question of volition to factor as well.

The other thought was to wonder how ticklishness changes in both sexes over the course of a lifetime, which was inspired by noticing that the original question was phrased "ladies or men" and on another thread someone wrote "girls" when presumably both meant "women". And then it hit me - how is ticklishness affected by age? When if ever does it wear out? I don't really get onto the "scene", as it were, but wondered if people fade away as they age because of a general lessening of interest or simply because of the general ageism of society.

Reminds me of a high school health class, in which the teacher informed us that 90% of American males admit to masturbating, and the other 10% are lying.
