Be it the HBO series or the series of novels...who here is a fan? I admit i first started watching it last year only because i so love Sean Bean....but i quickly became addicted...

When season one ended, up in the air so to speak, i had to buy the books...i wasn't sure if i'd be around for season two...which starts April first on HBO...

I have five novels, waiting on the sixth to be released...each is as addictive as the previous...

And i was pleased with how well the HBO series mostly followed the book line...there were discrepancies...such as the ages of the characters and scenes added to the tv series that weren't in the novel...but nothing basic changed...the plot is still true to form...

I do admit that i hate having my favorite characters killed off...starting with Khal Drogo...but such is fate and the author's whims...

Season two follows the second novel...with Robb Stark carrying on the war for the North...King Joffrey the idiot teen king...Jon Snow going beyond the wall...et al.

My favorite character has to be Tyrion Lannister...otherwise known as The Imp...Peter Dinklage is playing him to perfection.

Who are or were your favorite characters?

Haven't seen the series on HBO, but the books... best damm thing I've ever heard. Even inspired me to start writting my own book.

Favorite character on first book was Danaerys, on second, Tyrion. On third, tie between both of them.

I'm reading the fourth book. right now is Cersei.

In the overall series, Tyrion for the win.

I've seen most if not all of Season 1 on HBO. I have the first novel, but I haven't started reading it yet (despite friends urgings because they want to be able to discuss it with me.

and you gotta love Tyrion... He just so-- Tyrion 🙂

Ah yes i advise you to read that first novel....you will find it hard to put down...that series of novels are addictive to say the least...

hmm Cersei has her certain charms i must admit...

The books were on my list of series that I eventually would get to. I have several friends who have read the books and they have told me that the TV series is staying faithful to the books. So I have held off reading them. I think that after I finish reading Shogun I am going to delve into the Dresden Files.

With that being said I am waiting for someone to drive a crossbow bolt through Cersei's head. I love the series so far. Tyrion is my favorite character so far, but Arya is a close second. I pretty much have nothing but praise to heap upon the series. I like Martin's style of storytelling nobody is off the table in who gets whacked. It is fantasy with a healthy dose of reality.

Can't wait for season 2 to start.

I absolutely love this show. I bought the books after the first series but have decided to put them off until I see the second series. Books are usually better than the series, so I'm fully expecting my tiny mind to be blown when I do get to them.

I've read the books and am a huge fan of the TV series as well. I am incredibly impressed by the TV series' ability to stand up on its own, given how complicated the plot is. The plot gets much more complicated and I know that the show will keep up.

My favourite part about it all is its ability to inspire strong emotion and shock the viewer. For example - the fight outside the brothel in King's Landing, Joffrey being Joffrey, etc.

I like her as well...just call her the Khaleesi lol...easier to spell...yes the tv series has stayed faithful to the novels so far...

I find it funny how everyone in the world setting is vying for the throne when
THE BLOODY MILLENNIA SPANNING WINTER is only a less than a century away.
Kinda shows they got their priorities skewed eh?

Didn't read the thread, for fear of spoilers. I haven't seen the last two episodes yet, so. I'm a huge fan. The story is very well done, and I'm definitely picking up the books soon.

The only complaint I have is the blatant and excessive sex. I realize it's HBO, but I watch the show with my mom, and it gets very awkward. If they would release a "toned down" version, I'd definitely jump all over that. It's the only show I follow besides Once Upon a Time, and Fallen Skies. Oh, and I look forward to Grimm as well as Blood & Chrome.

uh what? lol

@DarthGrim...i didn't post anything that could ruin it for you...not sure if others did as i sometimes skim thru comments...

About the sex...yes in the books there are hardly any sex scenes...i mean mentioned, except in passing..

A friend of ours gave us his copy of Rome, HBO series. Not bad for the first season. We have the BBC series, I, Claudis on DVD. We're both into history.

Watched the second season of Rome. Very disappointed. HBO decided to use "farbie" language (fuck was coined during the Victorian Era, not 2000 years ago). Since the contract for Rome was shortened for only two seasons, decades of history had to be completed in just a few episodes.

Last year, we went to see the movie "The Eagle". More believable and gritty.

The first season of Thrones is out already. Does not bode well for a long-time series.

I've been watching Rome on Netflix. Great series. I laughed when I went to see John Carter of Mars. If you haven't seen the movie
James Purefoy and Ciarán Hinds are cast in it. I noted to myself, 'Hey, that's Caesar and Antony' and laughed.

I read the first book and was intrigued, but I admit I was really confused with the constant switching around. If the chapters weren't labeled, I probably would be really lost, even though I enjoyed the story. I forget the names at this moment, but there was one character...I think he was a bastard prince of the main king...and he was either sent off or went off willingly to join this sort of force? Not entirely sure, my memory is a jerk. Anyway, I liked his POV the best.

Sounds like Jon Snow. Yes, he is a cool character. He went off to join The Watch.

Finally saw the season finale! Season two is definitely going to be interesting.

I have to say my three favorite characters are Catelyn Stark, The Khaleesi and Arya Stark.

- SPOILERS -

I love The Kahleesi's character development; she really came into her own as a leader and a queen. Plus she now has three awesome companions XD Catelyn Stark is such a bad-ass. I'm intrigued by her character, and I hope to learn more about her. I loved how she was able to leverage her diplomatic skills to rally the knights to capture Tyrion. She definitely has the brains her husband never had. I'd really like to know more about her family history, because apparently her dad was a pretty big deal. And finally, little Arya. A scrappy little warrior who has the potential to grow into a formidable knight herself. I'm really excited about the possible direction her character can go.

- END SPOILERS -

I'm a sucker for badass female characters.

I'm definitely ordering the books. I want to learn more about these characters.

Also, Eddard Stark was an idiot. I don't think I've ever been more irritated with a character. - SPOILERS - He made every possible mistake, and only proved that he was little more than a stalwart warrior with a big heart and very little brain. - END SPOILERS -

Oh, and I really liked Syrio Forel, - SPOILERS - the master swordsman that tutored Arya. - END SPOILERS - If I were to live in that world, he's the kind of character I'd end up being. I'm not sure whether he lived or died, though. I missed that episode...

Its great to see Game of Thrones threads even on a predominantly tickle-based forum, lol. I've read all the books so far and am currently halfway through the most recent one. I shall say this: if HBO continue making the series of each book, we have some gooood shit to look forward to. Can't wait for season two!

O hoooooooo do not...i repeat...do not denigrate my favorite character, Ned Stark...he had honor...and you will learn much more about Lady Catelyn in the second book...

Tsk tsk Sean Bean played Ned to perfection...as Mark Addy did King Robert...and natch they both died grr.

SPOILERS EVERYWHERE

Ned was a hero, an honourable man in a city of thieves and backstabbers. I can see why people say he's stupid, but he's a man of principle and he never wavered on them. Poorly suited for the rat's nest of King's Landing, but it is what gave the Starks the respect of the entire North, having ruled for thousands of years.

It is implied that Syrio was killed by Ser Meryn. His last fight is pretty awesome, you owe it to yourself to watch. Honour and pride also got him killed in the end, but his honour is probably why Ned hired him in the first place.

*SPOILERS**SPOILERS*
I'm half expecting him to pop up in Braavos to find Arya again at some point in Dance with Dragons really. Expecting and hoping!
*SPOILER END*

SPOILER ALERT!

I don't hate Ned Stark. His lack of intelligence irritated me; and I wouldn't be irritated if I didn't care about him. Yes he was honorable, but all the good it did him or his family 😛 He was the kings hand, but he could have used a right-hand himself; somebody with sharper wit. But then again, it's not like he was short on advice; he was practically given the entire plot of his demise but chose to ignore all the signs and advice. Stubborn!

Oh, on a side note, check out this bit of epicness:

And for the pure 'metal' version, without the violins:

Good stuff!

I'd say The Game of Thrones has one of the best opening credits for a TV show. In terms of opening song, and the entire animation.

SPOILER ALERT!

The thing is, being honorable doesn't have to mean you're stupid. You can be honorable and cunning. Ned was extremely short-sighted. He said it himself; he was a soldier. Meaning he was excellent at following orders. Give him a mission, and he'll see it through. He'll have your back to the bitter end, and he will not fail. Heck, his skill with the greatsword (imo) out-matched the King Slayer; and he would definitely have creamed that Lannister snake, if he hadn't gotten leg-stabbed.

He was a soldier. He wasn't a politician, and he certainly wasn't a king.

Syrio's the man! I wouldn't count him out yet. I pretty much have no reason to believe anybody is truly dead unless proof is given. That's why they showed Ned's head on a pike. I'd like to think he did some aikido wizardry and got out with nary a hair out of place. I hope! XD

Well you will recall Ned did not wish to be hand to the King...there's more to that particular story in the upcoming books...

quit with the spoiler alerts lol..

😛

By the way, I just saw the first episode of season II. It looks very promising.
