Why Can Tickling Be So Taboo

What I'm trying to say is why it may seem embarassing or strange . In the past the lady's seemed quite taken with the idea and more than happy to participate with me. So I ask why do we feel uncomfortable about letting it out .

i think in mainstream society it could be viewed as taboo.. just like the bdsm concept is considered rather taboo by the masses.. to me, go with what you like and don't worry about what other's think..

I'm pretty similar, Obdub.

I tend to be very conservative publicly, because I was taught to uphold decency. So I treat tickling like any other sexual act and keep it concealed from the public...

The only person I open up to about it is my significant other; other than that, its nobody else's bees wax lol so why shove it in their faces?

i don't know why. wish i did. i am still quite embarrassed. i am in a f/f relationship but have not told her about still. i am just starting too feel comfortable typing the word tickle. it will take me much more time too say out loud🙂

I think the hollywood brother hit on something here.
For me, the desire to dominate is tied up (hah) with tickling. It's not just fun, it's sort of sadistic. I don't know if I like that about myself, to be honest. It's one reason I don't expose my predilection to most people, even though tickling itself can be rather innocent, and, ironically, people without the fetish might be perfectly comfortable with joking about it or even doing it.
My current g/f even tells me she likes it, but so far it hasn't been a part of our relationship.

But part of the reason it's taboo is because it's unbearable for most people. It can cause extreme distress, and you know, that can be pretty uncool. There are dozens of profiles on bondage personals websites of subs who are cool with caning, bathroom restriction, suspension, caging, mummification, hot wax, and even piercing, but tickling is a hard limit.

I can only speak for myself, but I think of tickling as a borderline cruel activity. Of course being preoccupied with inflicting distress on people isn't socially acceptable. I'd rather live in the society that has that taboo than the society where people are regularly stoned, stocked, caged, drawn and quartered, broken with the wheel, etc. in public.
