Why we should get rid of Saddam

I see the US vs Iraq situation like this:

(Yes, prepare for a big, long analogy... I'm waiting for the new Quake III Point Release to download, after all!)

Imagine the world as a prison cell, and the US and Iraq as two prisoners sharing that cell. The US is a massive, powerful prisoner who could kick the crap out of anyone at any time if he wanted to... but generally chooses not to. Iraq is like a puny Pee-Wee Herman-esque prisoner... who just happens to be a compulsive prison-style rapist. Now the big prisoner has 2 choices:

1. He can maintain constant vigilance, watching the little guy day and night, always sleeping on his back, never dropping his cigarettes, or (god forbid) the soap. As long as he keeps perfect watch, he can stop the little guy no matter what he tries, and hope that circumstances change... However, should he slip up just ONCE, he will be damaged in a horrible manner, and no ammount of stomping on the little rapist prisoner afterwards will ever be able to undo what damage has been done.

2. Knowing that he will eventually have to do it anyway, the big prisoner can pre-emptively stomp the living hell out of the little rapist prisoner, rendering him incapable of attack. This might cause the big prisoner to catch some heat from other sources, such as the little rapist prisoner's friends in the "Such-and-Such Prison Rabid Little Man-Raper Society," or with the other big, tough, yet easy going prisoners. But it's nothing he can't really handle, because he's the baddest guy in the cell block.

The situation is the same with us and Saddam. We can watch his ass like a hawk, but we all KNOW he's going to pull something, and it's going to be bad. We can probably stop him... but if we don't, we can NEVER bring back however many of our people he manages to kill. That's why I favor getting rid of him ourselves, right now.

If you have a rifle, and there's a rabid dog in your barnyard, you don't wait for annimal control to show up.

BTW, the "Such-and-Such Prison Rabid Little Man-Raper Society" represents certain OTHER terrorist-sympathetic nations... and the other "big, tough, yet easy going prisoners" are the various allies and such that want us to hold back. 🙄

I think I have WAY too much free time... 😛

Theological...

So, who is the warden? The U.N.? Yuk...
Nice analogy....I like it and it presents the "case' in the perspective I also tend to believe is truthful. I'm still not thrilled with acting premptively, but as you have stated, waiting too long in these technologically superior times can be very expensive in terms of lost lives. Hope it goes fairly quickly. My personal opinion is that Saddam and relatives will be evacuating the country and becoming rich, exiled billionaires as we cross the border. President Bush has made it very clear that there will be no halfway measures taken in Iraq this time around, and I don't see Saddam as a "go down with the ship" kinda guy. Q

The question is not why we should get rid of Saddam, asutickler, but how we should do it. Some want to do it now, others want to wait for congressional approval and/or international support. I fall into the latter camp, but all the bad things he's done justifies his removal from power, that's something most of us agree on.

Why we should get rid of Saddam...

1. It makes great tv!

2. One less bad moustache

3. We can't find that other guy who used to be the most evil person in the world

Because he is a twat

hey Biggles, the translation of your latin quote is not quite right

what's wrong with it? I had to edit the famous quote, so the grammar's probably not right. I have enough trouble with english grammar, there's no way I'm gonna get the latin right! 😀

It says.................

"It is a sweet and seemly thing to die for a ballot." But seeing as how only the Illuminate gives an arse about Latin any more, who gives a shag?😀

Because it'll make everyone believe that we're winning the war on terror if we do. Then we can all go to bed happy at nights and wake up in the morning to be caught in the headlights of an oncoming CNN.

CNN= Claptrap No News

Saddham is an arse-head of the first water, it's a fallacy to believe that the US and the UK are doing this as part of the War On Terror. Hell, our governments did more to create the war on terror by arming the frigging loonies and training their officers in Sandhurst and West Point than the mad mullahs ever did.

perhaps...

As good a reason as any for going back, correcting past mistakes and freeing the general population from a crappy government....it's a mess alright Q

I hope for their sake they don't end up as "free" as us. That would really depress them.

They both have the same descriptive noun in the Latin language mate. Just like time and space do in the Zulu language.

I prefer CNN= Crappy News Network, but I'll take it over MSNBC and FOX any day (and the Internet and newspapers over all three).

I'm starting to think Jim's almost as smart as me. Or maybe he really does have a lot of books! 😀

Enough books to repopulate the rainforest mate. At last estimate, about 4,000.
