Many are predicting the apocalypse as the NHL Players Association and the NHL are faced with the grim prospect of hammering out a new CBA... the current CBA expires July 1. Do you think there will be a season in the fall?

I don't see it happening....I don't think the NHL will be gone for good, but I see it taking a nice long break. It needs rebuilding anyhow. It has to be able to compete with the likes of the NBA, NFL, and MLB to stay healthy....tough times for hockey fans are ahead. Im just depressed that the NBA season is over....:cry1:

after the 1995 season, it is apparent that the two sides are willing to sit by without playing.

i think the season will not begin in october. and quite possibly it won't get settled until the following year.

I'm hoping the excitement of the World Cup this summer will get the two sides together and realize that a lockout/strike would be disastrous for the game.... I'm still hopeful, but leery, considering the two nimrods who are in charge of the negotiations :sowrong:

Hockey and its' players and the "Suits" cannot allow or afford to allow to happen in Hockey what happened in Baseball the last time they went on strike. The fans made a statement albeit a feeble statement dropping attendance. What the baseball fans should have done is stage a major protest and have NOBODY show up.....not just a major drop in attendance but a total NON attendance. Having baseball games played to a totally EMPTY stadium for one week or one series in each stadium. THAT would have been a statement.

Hockey could NOT afford to have this reaction and revolt by its' fans.

I think they will come to some sort of agreement that would and will allow the 2004/2005 season to start without delay.

IF not, then the fans should make THEIR statement by having games played to empty arenas.

Ps. I still think the fans of Baseball should give the teams and owners a reminder......ONE game each team each stadium, NOBODY shows.

I agree with your assessment. However, it just will never happen... especially here in Toronto. We could have a bunch of monkey's strap on Leafs sweaters and equipment and the place would still be sold out :sowrong: It's always been the toughest ticket to get in town, even during the "Ballard" years and rebuilding phases. The fact is, hockey will ALWAYS sell in this market and most Canadian markets. However, a prolonged stoppage will kill the game in most U.S. markets where they're fighting a losing battle to sell hockey anyway. I mean really, hockey in Nashville and Florida? San Jose and Phoenix? Anaheim and Carolina? The league and its teams would benefit greatly if the number of teams were cut to suit only those cities which are proven hockey markets eg. NY, Minnesota, Detroit, Boston, Chicago, etc... although Boston and Chicago have struggled with attendance in recent years. This would also increase the talent base on any given team, if the league were to go back to say, 21 teams instead of 30. It's a pipe dream I know, because the players union would never agree to it. But I think it needs to happen... and if there is a long work stoppage, it just might.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with you, Lime 🙁 I guess we'll see what happens... the whole Bertuzzi issue rising again this weekend just in time for the draft does not help things, lol 🙄

No it does not help matters at all. No room for that shit in the sport that has fought(pun indented)so hard to regain national respect and recognition.

I agree.... there's no need for that garbage in the game 😡 Hey, a good hockey fight can really change the outcome of the game and swing momentum, I don't want fighting to go... but there's too many knuckleheads who step over the line. Bertuzzi is a prime example. I don't normally knock my own team, but Tie Domi's actions in the playoffs a few years ago against New Jersey pretty much cost us the season and totally changed the complexion of the series... bah! :sowrong:

I agree with the group so far. I don't see a full season. Like all pro sports, the greed of both the owners and players will keep us fans stranded and only the fans lose in the end.🙁
