Lately i seem to be having difficulty in downloading wmv files. I am signed in but when I put the cursor over the file that I want to download all I can get is an 'attachment' and not the 'wmv' file. If I click on the file instead I get a message which asks me to sign-in again but won't let me any further, It just goes around in circles, asking me to sign in.

I asked a moderator MTP Jeff by private message and he said ask here.

I am on Windows Media Player 11 and have recently upgraded to BT Broadband from Dial-up. I have contacted my Broadand supplier but they say it is probably the fault of the web-site.

Any ideas guys ?

I dont have that problem, but its been my experience that everybody always tries to pass the buck because they just dont want to deal with it.

Tell me, do you by any chance use Firefox? If so, I know your problem: You cannot right-click and "Save Link As" vbulletin attachments correctly in Firefox 1.5 and up without an extension. FF grabs the first filename it sees, attachment.php, rather than waiting, like IE, for the server to tell it what the attachment is. Or do I misunderstand the problem?

I don't know what Firefox is and as far as I know I use IE... so you may have misunderstood slightly but what is happening when I click on a wmv file is similar to what you have described.

The problem that I have is that for some reason my computer doesn't see the .wmv as a file only as an attachment. It worked fine when I was on dial-up but since upgrading to Broadband internet I have had this problem.

Excuse my ignorance but what is Firefox 1.5 ???

Firefox is another browser, like Internet Explorer is.

Hmm ... a switch to broadband should not have altered this ... actually, it might have. When you left-click on an attachment link, your browser (Internet Explorer) attempts to access the file at the TMF. The first thing it sees is the "attachment.php" file, as that is the default attachment. That file should convert to the proper file with a correct filename and extension (.wmv, in this case). However, it sounds like Internet Explorer might not be liking the faster internet so much. You see, it takes a short time for the server the TMF is on to "convert" the attachment.php file to the correct one. Dial-up is so much slower than broadband that it might have given Internet Explorer just enough extra time to grab the correct file. Broadband, being faster, may be so quick that Internet Explorer is grabbing the "attachment.php" file before it has time to convert. I suggest the following: try right-clicking on the attachment link and selecting "Save Target As." See if then the attachment appears correctly in the save window. If so, save it and view it on your computer. This is a better idea anyway than left-clicking and "streaming" the file from the TMF without saving it to your computer first.
