what sort of wine do you prefer - red or white? any particular varietal and region?

not being the conossieur myself, i only know what i think tastes good - for me its the sweet red ones and also a sweet german reisling. and lets not count out that wonderful spanish concoction we fondly call sangria.

First I should say that I prefer single malt scotch whiskey to wine. Among those, I like the smokey ones from Islay best, and my favorite is Lagavulin.

That said, if I am drinking wine, I like Cabernet Sauvignon best during the meal. For a dessert wine, I share your preference for a late harvest riesling from the Rheinland.

Wish I could afford Trockenbeerenauslese more often. 😀

milagros -

i also enjoy scotch sometimes. just this summer i was in scotland, and got to tour a lowland distillary. mots folks prefer the highland malts, but hey, this one was closer to edinburgh.

this year i also tasted tequilla for the very first time. i had a lot of misconceived notions about it, but found that i enjoy it very much.

me, I love a nice glass of merlot (red). Or if choosing white I love a Pinot Grigio. I can get into a nice Chianti with a good plate of pasta with red sauce. Then there is always a well made glass of Sangria with some Paella...yummy.

nope, don't drink alcohol. Has anybody had that Arbor Mist, though? The commercial looks refreshing. Does it live up to its name?

My stomach burns like hell whenever I drink white wine, so I prefer red wine. It has something to do with the different process of wine-making, I was told.

Depending on my meal, I choose the wine. I basically prefer dry wines, like a nice Chianti, Chateauneuf du Pape, or Bordeaux, but I also like the heavier stuff like the full-bodied Burgundy, Dole (Swiss, rarely exported because it doesn't travel well), or the ultimate King of Red: Brunello di Montalcino! Yummy!!! 😎

But wines are usually reserved for high-class meals for me. Normally, I drink beer or fruit juice.

I'm not a wine-drinker (being a student, you drink beer... a lot), but one brand I liked is a red wine by Jacob's Creek. *puts on wine taster voice* A fine little number, if I may say so...

What a shame, to live so close to all that quality riesling, and not drink any.

Don't know about you, but a good cognac goes good with any meal. the preference? Courvosier, of course.

red, and sweet for me

my favorite is lambrusco. i have a couple friends that on wine shops, and they laugh at me all the time, for having such a peasant taste. but what the hell, i like it, and that's all that really matters!

for champaigne i love asti spumante.

I love Sangria. The last time I had it though, I was having dinner with a friend. He said I started out sitting up straight at the table, but with each glass I was slumping further and further down in my seat. LOL

I also love Robert Mondavi White Zinfindel.

I'm not a big white wine fan, although I'll drink them on occasion. I have no problem substituting a red in a meal that traditionally calls for white. For me, there is nothing like a nice aged Chianti, but I can enjoy pretty much any red varietal and region. Syrah is one such example that's really starting to grow on me, and it's usually not that expensive.

I also drink way too much beer, and can't speak enough good about that wonderful beverage. Realizing full well that beer deserves its own thread, I will simply say that I enjoy pilsners and pale ales.

Miz Knox and I enjoy nice blush wines. We always have a bottle of Woodbridge white Zin around, whatever the occasion. Nothing elaborate.

Hell, I'll drink any kind of beer, provided of course that it doesn't taste like piss (usually of the mass-produced US variety). Realizing that the degree to which a beer tastes like piss is a rather subjective criterion (Budweiser rates high on the piss-o-meter, while PBR does surprisingly well for its relative cost), and that I do not actually know what piss tastes like and can only judge beer by how I imagine piss tastes, I will simply say that I can probably find at least one beer from any beer-producing country that I can enjoy.

I do like some Japanese beer, as well as other Asian brews.

ps. I'm not really Japanese and am not really that big of a sushi freak, although i do occasionally eat the stuff. The reason I registered under this name is sort of a long story, and I'm not really sure why I'm posting this here so I'll stop.
