"Witness To Jonestown" Airs On November 9, 2008 - Reminder

Tune in on NBC this November the 9th. In honor for the 30th anniversary of the Jonestown mass murder (to me it's not a mass suicide), which happened on November 18, 1978, a 2 hour documentary is airing called Witness to Jonestown.

November 9, 2008 at 11:00 pm est. on MSNBC.

I remember hearing from various sources back in the day that the Jonestown thing was a government mind control experiment gone awry. Or according to plan, depending on who you listened to.

The Jim Jones cult put out a record called "He Is Able", the CD reissue of which has what's purported to be the last-ever recording of Reverend Jones preaching to his flock, just before the Kool-Aid party.

Hey, can someone remind me that this is airing again on Nov. 9th (in case I brainfart)?

o yea i'll be sure to remind you...being that i'm so mature and whatnot lol

ahhh this was a tragedy indeed...and yes a mass murder was exactly what it was...Powers Boothe played Jim Jones too well..i could never associate him after with any other part...

What's even more screwed up about this whole thing was that the Reverend Jim Jones actually did very good things early on.

He led one of the few churches in his hometown that allowed in people of all races (in this particular church emphasis on black community) to join and for this he was hated. He also did many charitable things such as setting up nursing homes for members and what not.

He then moved out of the racist environment and set up People's Temple in California. However around this time the rumors started going around that Jones' had sex with members of both sexes from his church, was using illegal drugs, and tried to totally dictate the lives of its members.

He made the move to Guyana almost right when a newspaper was printing damning articles about him. Jim Jones was unique indeed and he did start with good intentions, but just went down hill later on.

well damn why so late??? hmm maybe some cable channel will show the movie..Powers Booth as i said before was too damn good..

i didn't watch that but last night CNN had a special called.."Escape from Jonestown" and i watched a good bit of it..never before scenes of Congressman Ryan lying dead on the ground near the wheel of the plane..and the NBC reporter who had just finished an interview with him, also lying there dead..

Jim Jones..i could see falling under the spell of his charisma and personality in his early days..but after he met that one preacher, he changed..he began thinking he was God..when he announced to the congregation that he was all to them...that he could be all things to all of them...the lover of both men and women..sleeping with other men's wives etc...then people should have protested and realized this guy was screwy...
