Are dying at a faster rate than the general population. We're literally losing thousands of these men and women everyday. I personally love it when the local VFW or American legion sells hats at the local mall. I have dozens of Unit hats and love it when one of the vets is a guy who served on or in a particular unit whose hat he happens to be selling. It's great hearing their stories and memories.
I'm positive many here either know or are related to a WW2 vet. So please, listen to their stories like it's the first time you've ever heard them, even if it's the millionth time you've heard the tale. These people sacrificed their youth, innocence, and sometimes future to fight, and beat the living shit out of the greatest evil this world has ever known.
I find it sobering that a guy who might not be able to remember his address can tell you word for word his steps, thoughts and fears when he hit the beaches at D Day. To have something that has that sort of impact, that it's not only a memory but a so burnt into the mind that it's literally branded on your soul is incredible in jy view.
The eyes might be getting hazy, the hair receding, gone or grey. The mind might be a bit cobwebby. But the raw courage and fire that made these people do what they did is STILL there and burning brightly.
Tap it while you still can.
